Madden does Killshot

01.24.2005

I remember reading that Quentin Tarantino was interested in directing this Elmore Leonard novel, after he was done with JACKIE BROWN (which is based on Leonard's "Rum Punch") a while back. Not sure what happened to that rumor, but seeing as Miramax still retained the rights to KILLSHOT, the Leonard novel about which I speak, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE director John Madden decided to "have a go" at it, and was chosen to shoot it as his next picture (he has the Gwyneth Paltrow/Jake Gyllenhaal drama PROOF, coming out later this year). A very strange choice of director to film a thriller in which a woman and her blue-collar husband become the targets of two killers after they stumble on an extortion plot hatched by the bad guys, but then again, it might make it all the more interesting. The film is currently in the process of casting, while THE FOUR FEATHERS' Hossein Amini adapts the novel into a screenplay. Many of Leonard's novels have been adapted onto the big screen, including the aforementioned Tarantino film, as well as GET SHORTY, its sequel BE COOL, MR. MAJESTYK (TRUE ROMANCE fans will remember the reference to this film in that one), THE BIG BOUNCE and one of my personal favorites, OUT OF SIGHT.
