Farrell joins S.W.A.T.

07.08.2002

Columbia's planned remake of the shortlived 70s TV show S.W.A.T. into a feature film has had a long and interesting past.  Everyone from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Paul Walker have been rumored to star.  After many rewrites on the script, which took it from being a one-man-show to a youth-centered ensemble piece, the film has finally settled on stars.   Samuel L. Jackson signed on a few months back and now he's got his co-star.   Colin Farrell just signed on to play Officer Jim Street opposite Jackson.  The Irish star will reportedly receive a whopping $8 million for the part despite the fact he's still (MINORITY REPORT aside) never had a huge hit.  To his credit, Farrell has starring roles in both THE RECRUIT with Al Pacino and DAREDEVIL coming in 2003.

In addition to having its two stars all set, S.W.A.T. also has a director in Clark Johnson who will make his feature film debut on the project.  Johnson previously directed episodes of "Homicide" for NBC and the new HBO series "The Wire."  The shooting script will come from David Ayer's (TRAINING DAY, THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS) version of the screenplay.  S.W.A.T. is expected to be one of Sony's big 2003 flicks.
