WB remakes Strangers

04.12.2005

Warner Bros. is set to remake the classic Alfred Hitchcock film STRANGERS ON A TRAIN with Noam Murro, who was set to direct THE RING 2 before being replaced by Hideo Nakata, making his directorial debut. Now why someone would want to remake STRANGERS ON A TRAIN now is beyond me. Not because it's a classic Hitchcock film that could hardly be improved upon but because it's already been done and that remake can't be improved upon. C'mon, how can you possibly top, "Oooooowen!!!". THROW MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN is probably the only way to remake or "reimagine" (to use a word the studios love) STRANGERS ON A TRAIN. Use the premise but make the mood and style of the film completely different. Plus add Anne Ramsey. And lines like, You clumsy poop, what'd you do that for?". This 2005 WB version, which they've shortened to just STRANGERS, is expected to be more of an adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith novel than a remake of Hitchcock's film. For those who are unaware, the story follows a man who murders an executive's mistress and wants him to return the favor by murdering his sister. No word yet on when production might begin.
