Bay's for The Birds

04.26.2005

Michael Bay's horror-remake-a-thon production company Platinum Dunes is has set up a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's classic THE BIRDS at Universal. Let me say that again - Michael Bay is producing a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's THE BIRDS. At this point I will direct you to your calendar to assure you that, no, this is not an April Fool's joke. In order to avoid being called a remake, which I guess Hollywood now realizes can be construed as a bad thing, Universal says this film will be a retelling of the original Daphne Du Maurier short story that inspired Hitchcock's film. Just like how THE AMITYVILLE HORROR was supposed to be a new adaptation of the book and not a remake of the old movie... and you can see how differently the 2005 version was. Bay is also working on remaking THE HITCHER for Universal-based Rogue Pictures and is developing a prequel to his remake of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Warner Bros. also has a Hitchcock remake, er, I mean adaptation of original story that became a Hitchcock film, in the works with a STRANGERS ON A TRAIN redo being directed by commercial veteran Noam Murro. On the brighter side, our nation's power supply issues have been resolved as the spinning corpse of Alfred Hitchcock can now generate enough energy to meet our needs. All this aside, I still think Bay is the right guy to direct TRANSFORMERS. Just not remake Hitchcock...
