Vaughn drops X3

06.01.2005

Just a month or so before filming was scheduled to begin on X-MEN 3, director Matthew Vaughn has left the production. Fox released a statement saying Vaughn had hoped to travel from his London home to Los Angeles and Vancouver (where the film was to be shot) but as pre-production continued it became clear he'd have to move stateside for at least a year. Vaughn opted to not uproot his family and instead left his post as director. Things had, up until this point, been going well under the Vaughn regime as he had won a number of battles with Fox execs regarding the direction of the film (i.e., casting Kelsey Grammer as Beast). Fox said they remain committed to the film and will stay on schedule for the mid-summer start date and May 26, 2006 release date. The search for a replacement has likely already begun and hopefully an announcement will be made sooner rather than later in an effort to preserve some of the casting choices. Vaughn was unavailable for comment and may have already returned to be with his family. It's unclear at this point whether Vaughn will stay aboard the film as an executive producer. More on this story as it develops...
