Stiller gets persuasive

06.07.2005

Realizing that with DUKES OF HAZZARD and BEWITCHED on the way this summer, pretty much all of the vintage American TV shows have been adapted to film, Ben Stiller has turned his eye to an obscure BBC series. Stiller will star in and produce the DreamWorks comedy THE PERSUADERS based on the short-running British TV series. The original series starred Tony Curtis and Roger Moore as a mismatched duo of wealthy playboys - one from New York the other an English Lord - who flirt with the ladies, get into adventures and solve crime. Kinda sounds like me and JoBlo when we're not working on the site. Stiller would take the Curtis role with Steve Coogan (AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS) subbing for Roger Moore. Stiller has a first-look production deal at DreamWorks and brought the concept to them after he discussed it with Coogan. DreamWorks and Stiller are getting set to start production on another film, TROPIC THUNDER, which our favorite Focker will star in and direct. That film follows five actors who are training for a war movie and must rely on their training to survive when their stuck in a real war-like situation on locale.
