Vengeance/Pan Poster

Today we get a good look at the poster for Chan-wook Park's final installment in his revenge trilogy SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE and Guillermo Del Toro's follow-up to HELLBOY, PAN'S LABYRINTH. A teaser for VENGEANCE was released earlier this year and it looked intriguing even though I didn't understand a word of what was said. Luckily, some people on the imdb.com messageboards did and translated what was said for us non-Korean speaking folk. Despite the translation, though, the only thing I can gather about the plot is that the titular Lady exacts her (most likely) cruel and sadistic vengeance on the most deserving scumbag until the very end of the flick seeing as how that makes the kill "more delicious". The movie's coming out in Korea at the end of the July but given the overwhelming amount of critical praise for Park's OLDBOY, it's likely VENGEANCE will be released stateside in a few months. Or years. And maybe then only in limited release. Hey, it's something.

LABYRINTH centers on a little girl in Spain whose family moves into an old house during the Spanish Revolution. While there, the little girl befriends a god named Pan, who lives in a "labyrinth" behind the girl's home. It's currently filming overseas with a release scheduled for next year.

I'm digging the hell out of both of them. They're both disturbingly creepy in different ways. The first because you know that innocent-looking girl in the picture is up to some insanely sadistic killings and probably has a severed head in that bag she's so casually carrying and the second because…well, I think we can all agree there's something disturbingly creepy about a little girl walking up to a monstrous animal-looking tree against a blood red background with a weird effing pattern.
