Highmore meets End

06.28.2005

JoBlo.com has learned that Freddie Highmore, the young star of both FINDING NEVERLAND and the upcoming CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, has signed on to star AWFUL END for director Francis Lawrence (CONSTANTINE). The film will feature a mix of live-action and animation as it follows a young, British boy (Highmore) who's forced to live with "Mad Uncle Jack" and "Mad Aunt Maud" when his parents fall ill. After being turned over to St. Horrid's Home for Grateful Orphans he and the other orphans stage a revolt and escape. The film is based on the children's book "A House Called Awful End," by Philip Ardagh, which is a cross between Dickens tales and LEMONY SNICKET. The book spawned two sequels, "Dreadful Acts" and "Terrible Times." Lawrence had been attached to direct the long-in-development I AM LEGEND for Warner Bros. but will start work on this film in September instead. Highmore recently wrapped filming on another live-action/animated film, ARTHUR AND THE MINIMOYS for director Luc Besson. CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY hits theaters on July 15.
