The Latest Announcements

Batman Special Editions - November 1

Batman fans can rejoice at the news of a slew of special editions being released for the first couple of flicks in the series. According to DavisDVD, specs for Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin include: "a new digitally remastered anamorphic transfer of the movie. Bonus features are set to include director commentaries by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher, new documentaries, making-of featurettes galore, cast and crew interviews and nine music videos from Prince, Seal and the Smashing Pumpkins." Pretty bomba, huh? You can, thankfully, pick up each film seperately or if you're a glutton for Schumacher punishment, pick up the Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology 1989-1997 box set available the same day. Chicks love the car.

Kingdom of Heaven - October 11

Orlando Bloom fans can rejoice because he hasn't disappeared just yet. In fact, Legolas has not only worked with some of the coolest directors like Ridley Scott here and Cameron Crowe in the upcoming Elizabethtown, but he's still slated to reprise his role as Will Turner in the next two Pirates sequels. Seems like only yesterday that my lady friend was fawning over that weird, androgynous elf in Lord of the Rings. Seems like only yesterday that my lady friend left me to join the Renaissance Fair. Sigh.

  • The Pilgrim's Guide - A text commentary synchronous with the film
  • Interactive Production Grid
  • A&E Movie Real: "Kingdom of Heaven"
  • The History Chanel's "History vs Hollywood" "Kingdom of Heaven"
  • Behind-the-Scenes Featurettes: Ridley Scott - "Creating Worlds", Production Featurette, Wardrobe Featurette
  • Orlando Bloom "The Adventure of a Lifetime"
  • Trailers
  • Seperate Anamorphic Widescreen and Full Screen editions

Orlando Bloom immediately regretted asking if anyone would like to come over for tea.

Arrested Development (S2) - October 11

Let's just, for the record, say that David Cross is one of the funniest dudes to come out on the scene in the past few years. And Jason Bateman has a really hot sister. And Portia D'Rossi is really friggin' hot too, even moreso because she plays for her home team. And Arrested Development is one of the best shows that Fox has showed in years. Yes, years and despite my pessimism earlier, was NOT axed (thanks Schmoes, you rule). No extras have been announced, and it doesn't look like there will be any. But the 18 episode, three disc set is in fact presented in Anamorphic Widescreen so...you know....there's that.

Saw (SE) - October 4

Lions Gate is on a tear (damn, horrible pun, my bad) with releasing special editions, but we still have YET to see a special edition of The Rules of Attraction. But this special edition which includes a newly remastered alternate cut, will quench my thirst for a minute or two until the Rules special edition is released. Or not. Some pretty cool features and commentaries below so it very well may be worth a double dip, if you know what I mean.

  • Audio commentary with director James Wan, screenwriter/actor Leigh Whannell and star Cary Elwes
  • Audio commentary with the producers
  • Behind the scenes featurette
  • Full Disclosure: Investigating Jigsaw featurette
  • "Saw" original short film
  • Jigsaw’s Workshop (build a puppet DVD-ROM)
  • Animated storyboard sequences
  • An on-set preview of Saw 2
  • Trailers
  • DTS 6.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 EX tracks

Menu Shots

The Ring 2

Alfred Hitchcock Presents:

Guess Who: Bernie Mac's one of my favorite comedians (and he also hails from Chicago) but drivel like this is so beneath him but hey, maybe he wants a new house. 8/2

Ghostbusters (1&2): "I've been slimed." Reminds me of my ex-girlfriend. 8/2

The Dukes of Hazzard (S1-4): One through four. That's four times the Daisy Duke. Wait....yeah, four times. 8/2

Thundercats (S1): Now you can freeze frame Cheetara anytime you want. Sicko. 8/9
