Land of the Dead - October 18

Below are the specs for George Romero's addition to his ever-growing Dead series. In it, zombies freely roam around the land and the living try to co-exist while trying not to be eaten and there's probably some underlying political statement about today's world. Sounds like a sitcom, only the zombies don't eat the humans, they treat them like indentured servants and play football against them at the end of every show. I'd watch that shit. But probably not. Keep in mind that if you don't want the Unrated edition, the Theatrical cut of the film will only be available in Full Screen format. Anamorphic Widescreen and Full Screen options are available only for the Unrated edition. Word.

Extras on Theatrical and Unrated Edition:

  • Feature commentary with George A. Romero, Producer Peter Grunwald and Editor Michael Doherty
  • Undead Again: The Making of Land of the Dead
  • A Day with the Living Dead
  • The Remaining Bits
  • When Shaun Met George
Exclusive Unrated Edition bonus features:

  • Bringing the Dead to Life
  • Scenes of Carnage
  • Zombie Effects: From Green Screen to Finished Scene
  • Bringing the Storyboards to Life

"Reporters from E! show up for the premiere of Land of The Dead."

Batman Begins -October 18

I'm not the biggest comic book guy around (incidentally, the only one I've read was one based on ALF) so I'm not sure if the movie followed the original storyline or not, but what I saw was a damn good film. The story engaged the hell out of me, Christian Bale delivered another great, torturous (in a good way) performance, and in the last third of the film, Katie Holmes delivered with a nice hard nipple shot. Hey, it gets cold in Chicago. It was very bleek, had an underlying creepiness and made me hate Rutger Hauer more than I already do, though I suppose that's the point. The two disc, special deluxe edition contains the special features below, while the single disc edition has only the theatrical trailer.

  • Exclusive collectible 72-page comic book from DC Comics™
    • Detective Comics #27 - The very first Batman story
    • The Man Who Falls - A classic story that influenced Batman Begins
    • Batman: The Long Halloween – The chilling first chapter of the acclaimed epic that also influenced the film
  • Genesis of the Bat: Batman incarnations from the mid-1980s to the present.
  • The Journey Begins: Creative concepts, story development and casting
  • Shaping Mind and Body: Fighting style
  • Gotham City Rises: Production design
  • Cape and Cowl: The new Batsuit
  • The Tumbler: The new Batmobile
  • Path to Discovery: Filming in Iceland
  • Saving Gotham City: The monorail chase sequence
  • Tankman Begins: A spoof on Batman Begins
  • Confidential files character/weaponry gallery
  • Still gallery of design ideas developed to market the movie
  • Batman Begins mobile game and DVD-Rom* weblinks

Airplane (SE) - November 15

Airplane has been one of my favorite movies since I was like five years old and shit. Dad was a cool guy, aside from all that drinking and spousal and child abuse, you know? What's cool about the movie is that you can always pick up something you hadn't seen or heard when you last watched it. Somehow, it all remains just as funny after repeated viewings. It's also nice to have the commentaries with the Zucker Brothers and Jim Abrahams and the deleted scenes. You ever been in a Turkish prison?

  • Enhanced branching feature during the film that leads to deleted scenes
  • Interviews
  • New commentary with producer Jon Davidson and directors/writers Jim Abrahams, Jerry Zucker and David Zucker
  • Subtitled trivia track
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • Anamorphic Widescreen
  • Dolby Digital 5.1

A familiar reaction when I tell my "three touchdowns in one game" story.

Cinderella Man - September 27

You'd figure that portraying a boxer in a film, and everything that goes along with it (most notably the boxing training) would give an actor an outlet for some pent up aggression. Not so, says Russel Crowe. Marriage and a kid can't even slow Crowe down, as he continues to pummel anyone looking to get in his way for some reason or another. Sweet. We need more dudes like this in Hollywood, it makes for good TV and publicity. There's a special Collectible edition of the film, the specs of which you can find below. Yeah, I'm getting kind of bummed out by these "extra spay-cial" editions too.

The Munsters (S2)

Cinderella Man

The Ring Two (unrated): Unrated editions sometimes mean "better" or "worse". The Ring 2 Unrated edition may have its own category. 8/23

New Jack City (SE): CMB is back with cool features and Wesley Snipes back when he wasn't crazy as a mufugga. Judd Nelson sports a goatee. 8/23

Boy Meets World (S3): Season Three: Topanga's getting older, developed but not quite there yet. Stay Tuned. 8/23

Gladiator (SE): The original edition of this had more extras on the disc than I have underwear (horrible example). Didn't they make enough money out of this multiple Oscar winning film? A new Three Disc Edition is overkill. 8/23
