A Breaking Bad movie? Bryan Cranston doesn't rule it out

3 years agoby:

Here's the deal-- what I'm about to post contains spoilers for those who have not watched BREAKING BAD through the 4th season. If you are not all caught up, please do so then revisit this article if you wish.

One last warning...if you are not caught up on BREAKING BAD do not read past this sentence.

Alright, warned enough. So when it the question of a possible BREAKING BAD movie was brought up, creator Vince Gilligan did not think that he had enough story to fill 16 episodes. Now, it seems that he has way more story than he thought he would end up with.

Bryan Cranston said this, “Vince feels that now we have too much story. We could actually go beyond those 16 episodes.”

As far as a movie goes, this is how Cranston sees it, “It’s not far-fetched. I wouldn’t mind visiting that possibility. And this is coming from a guy who doesn’t know anything of how the show’s going to end. If it doesn’t end up in a total apocalypse, who knows? Maybe we could revisit Walter White a year down the road and see where his life has gone. If he’s still alive, that is.”

But Walter White may not live to make it to a movie, Gilligan cautioned. His possibilities surviving through all this are iffy.

So what will happen with Walter? Gilligan offered this (and the last two sentences gave me chills), "We can look forward to Walt’s ego growing by leaps and bounds for having killed Gus Fring. To this point, Walt’s been able to lie to himself and reason that he’s done all these terrible things for his family. But that’s a lie that’s harder and harder to maintain as this upcoming season progresses and the money piles up and he’s faced more and more with the badness that he’s done. He’s going to be a harder guy to root for, I promise you that. The experiment of the show has been to take a good guy and have him transform himself into a bad guy. And we’re committed to seeing that through to the very end.”

Extra Tidbit: The LA Times also has another great article on "'Breaking Bad' and the Gus Fring issue". Major spoilers there too.

People are making good points as to why it shouldn't happen. But there's no way in hell I'd argue if it happened. Now they just need to surprise us and tell us there's really 2 MORE SEASONS after this next one!!!!!

A movie would be great if Walt is still alive. Dont get me wrong, the rest of the cast is great, but without Bryan Cranston this movie wont be as good as it could be.

I always envisioned the ending of the series as Jessie killing Walt.

Hmmm..

I go back and forth on the idea, but one thing I do believe is if it was made into a movie it would be up for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. No doubt about it bitch...

HUGE fan of this show, have been watching the show real time since the first ep. But a movie..? Meh, one of the biggest reasons I like this show is because it is really original. However, a movie wouldn't be.. I think. Neutral for now ! :-)

Since Walt is most likely going to die when the show ends, why not center the movie around Jesse? Or better yet, Hank. I'd watch that!

Don't know how to feel about this... it seemed Gilligan knew where he wanted to go and had an ending but now it seems like he's not really sure where he wants it to come to a stop. I love the show and if it could run for 30 years and maintain the same quality that would be great and I'd watch it every week but at the same time, stories need endings and nothing leaves as sour of a taste in my mouth as a TV show that stretches itself out just for the sake of staying around an extra season or

A movie could work as an extra long capper (in lieu of a true "series finale") but I would want it to be stated PRIOR to the final episode airing that that is their plan, otherwise we could be sitting around waiting for something that a. never materializes or b. is simply a reaction to demand for "more" even if the show has an ending that is in line with Gilligan's vision.

BB is easily the best cable show on television of the last 15-20 years.

Just started watching this

I saw it was on netflix (first 3 seasons) and last Sundays I started watching it. I am now on the 10th episode of the second season and holy hell I can't stop. This is a great show, I love all the science stuff, I feel like I am watching an R rated MacGyver.

Can't see Walter being killed off. I mean, yes it could happen. Anything is possible in BB. But I don't think it would be a justice to the character. Walter may be a villainous character, but he's a villain we like. He deserves punishment, but I also see redemption for all he's done. So, the best outcome I can see for Walter is to give himself up and go to jail. As for the possibility of a movie, that's more iffy. It's really not that kind of a show. I adore this show, but...

a movie would be contingent on there being questions left after the finale, which I don't think will happen. Let's face it, this show will end 1 of 2 ways, either with Walter dead or in jail.

5 seasons is a good length. Worked for The Wire.

If it finished the series

I would be up for it. Of course I wouldn't want to see that for at least a couple more years. The show is already so cinematic, I can't say wouldn't love a big screen finale.

Any resistance to this idea comes from the fact that people still have a season ahead of them. After the series finale, everyone will want this like a meth head that's out of meth.

I'm all for more be it a movie or some more episodes providing its done right. I'd prefer more eps as I too look forward to the cliff hanger at the end of each ep. I can't believe the amount of BB content this site have dished out in the last few weeks....... Thanks Yo.

Can't resist........ FUCK I LOVE THIS SHOW YO.

Nah. The show's great, but I'd love it if they kept it self-contained to these five seasons (I refuse to call 16 episodes split over two Summers one season.)

Complete the narrative and go out on top. oh-dae-su is right. Just let there be 45 minute chapters to this story to parse and absorb.

I'm all for a movie. I'm sure there is a great self contained story somewhere in Walt's world. It doesn't even have to be a big budget theatrical movie, it could be an AMC Original.

Coming from someone who loves the show and has seen every episode, I don't want a movie. One of the best things about the show is always having a consistently suspenseful cliffhanger from each episode. You can't wait for the next one to see what the outcome will be, only to have another suspenseful cliffhanger at the end of that episode. They work best in 45 minutes, not an hour and 45 minutes. Keep it on the small screen, bitch.

I completely agree and appreciate you ending with the word "bitch". Breaking Bad fans are the best.
