A crossover between Marvel's TV shows and their films is "inevitable"

09.30.2015

Marvel's stable of television shows has been slowly growing, but while they occupy the same universe as their big-screen counterparts, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, and Agent Carter haven't made as much of an impact on the films as the films have made on them; however, with the popularity of their existing shows increasing as well as hype for their upcoming Netflix series, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke at a special AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Blu-ray/DVD release art show and confirmed that a proper crossover is inevitable once the matter of scheduling can be solved:

I think that’s inevitable at some point as we’re plotting the movies going forward. The schedules do not always match up to make that possible. They’re more nimble and faster and are able to produce things more quicker than we do. That’s one of the reasons you can feel the effects of The Winter Solider or Age of Ultron on the show. Going forward and certainly as they tend to do more shows and cast as such great actors as they have — particularly on the Daredevil show — that may occur… By the time we start doing a movie, they’d be midway through a season. By the time our movie comes out, they’d be done with the second and starting the third season. Finding the timing on that is not always easy.

Marvel's TV shows, particularly their Netflix series, have assembled quite the talented group, including Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, Rosario Dawson, Krysten Ritter, David Tennant, Carrie-Anne Moss, Alfre Woodard, and many others, so it's only natural that Marvel would want to make use of them on the big screen. Aside from the scheduling issue, another potential roadblock for a Marvel film/TV crossover is the recent restructuring of Marvel Studios. Although Kevin Feige will now be reporting directly to Disney's Alan Horn, Marvel's TV branch will still fall under Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter's domain.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON will be released on Blu-ray/DVD on October 2, 2015.

Which Marvel Television character would you most like to see make the leap to the big-screen?

Things I'd love to see: Vincent DiNofrio's Kingpin in a Spider-Man movie, Murdock defending an Avenger in court, Dr. Strange teaming up with Iron Fist, and Coulson revealing himself to his old team

I can't remember if it was ever said when Daredevil started operating in the shadows but a one off episode in season 2 or later depicting him caught up in the Battle of New York and taking on some Chitauri foot soldiers would be cool.

A crossover could work really well if they plan ahead enough. They have Infinity Wars coming out in 3 years, if they are able to meet, plan and strategize enough now, they could come up with an effective story to bring the TV characters into the movies (and vice versa).

I think what would be a cool idea is that during Infinity Wars, they learn something to do with the Gauntlet's power is somewhere on Earth. The Avengers are too busy actually fighting Thanos to look for it, so they enlist

The Avengers are too busy actually fighting Thanos to look for it, so they enlist the help of AOS and The Defenders. This carries forward into their respective TV seasons - AOS is searching globally for this maguffin, and The Defenders are doing the same throughout NYC. Their TV seasons lead into Infinity Wars part 2.

Sorry fanboys, but when the big screen and the small screen cross paths, that's when the MCU will officially jump the shark. Are we supposed to think that Coulson's death in Avengers never happened? They just ignore it? They take the JR from Dallas route and Avengers 1 was just a dream?

Out of all of the characters featured in the MCU, but not on the big screen, I would want to see Daredevil, Kingpin, and Punisher the most.

But again considering how great Daredevil is on Netflix, I wouldn't really rush the transistion. Let the series plunge even further into the characters lives and stories before making the leap to Infinity Wars or something.

I'm still waiting/hoping Coulson can find his way back into the films again, even if just for an extended cameo, and see the reaction of the Avengers. I guess Daisy could appear in the Inhumans movie, but I'd almost prefer Daredevil and Punisher to remain a little separate from the films. I like the more grounded approach to the netflix shows, and I feel mixing them with the avengers would ruin that vision. Besides, Age of Ultron showed that cramming as many characters as possible into a film

Coulson has to be back for Infinity Wars considering how big the film is going to be.

According to Joss doesn't mean shit anymore, that comment was tounge in cheek because how stupid of a question it is when the episode of Agents of SHIELD before Age of Ultron ended directly where Age of Ultron started. I think he was just frustrated at the lack of research the interviewer had done mixed with the frustration of... well... everything else he has gone through.
