A Jaeger and Kaiju are ready to rumble in this new banner for Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim Banner

Did anyone else have to go to the bathroom and clean up after watching the new trailer for PACIFIC RIM? I don't "geek out" too often on the site (you won't see me ending an article with *giggle* anytime soon) but the shot in the trailer of the Jaeger robot dragging the oil tanker literally made my jaw drop, which hasn't happened to me in a long time. While the first trailer was great the newest one gave us a lot better looks at the Jaegers and Kaiju in action and it did not disappoint.

A new banner for the Guillermo Del Toro directed film has been released and it just screams, "Epic." I think some of the best visuals in the movie are going to be when the robots and creatures face-off in urban settings because you can get a better feel for their size when compared to the environment around them. If they're boxing in the middle of the ocean it's a little harder to appreciate their size. When they're towering over a bridge it's pretty clear that they are f*cking massive.

Pacific Rim New Banner

PACIFIC RIM starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi and Clifton Collins, Jr. will smack you upside the head with a nautical vessel on July 12th, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Do you think PACIFIC RIM will end up being a film that has a lot of buzz online but doesn't do as well as expected in theaters or do you believe it will be a huge hit?

It's PG-13 with robots and monsters - I can't see it doing too badly even without an attached toy franchise.

I'm loving the visuals in this. I am also a fan of the Transformers but it is quite refreshing how in this trailer the fights look a bit more clear. In the Transformers films I couldn't tell which one was the goodie and which one was the baddie and sometimes it was like looking into a washing machine.

I think if there is any non-sequel, non-comic book related movie that's got a chance of really making an impact in the summer line-up, this one is it. Guillermo Del Toro will guarantee some people will show up. The large-scale mayhem, and fans of Idris Elba, might make up another factor. Releasing the Wondercon trailer online helped remind people this is coming.

I'm sold and not looking at anything else

I think the movie looks awesome and I will be there opening weekend. I think this movie will end up being one of those that if word of mouth is good it will gain momentum weeks after it is released. It may not have a huge opening weekend but it may end up having a lot of staying power if word of mouth is resoundingly positive.

This is an original script, so I hope it does really well. But if it flops, I call dibs on the pun "Jaeger Bombs"

It looks awesome. But I don't see it doing well in theatres. I'll definitely be paying to see it, but I can see a large majority of average movie-goers dismissing this film saying it's a Godzilla ripoff. I think the crowd going to see this is Guillermo del Toro fanboys and sci-fi fans. But I don't think that's enough of a crowd to make this movie a box office success. I hope I'm wrong though, because this looks amazing and I'd like to see it recognized for it's originality etc.

I think that it has mass appeal. It's being marketed as a big, action-heavy, large-scale summer blockbuster, and I think there is an audience for that.

I'm pretty sure it will do well in Japan because of Godzilla popularity and Pacific Rim is, well, gigantic monsters smashing up.

I think you're grossly underestimating movie going audiences. We live in a country where those shitty "______ Movie" movies (Epic, Disaster, Scary) continue to turn a profit despite them progressively getting worse and worse each time around. I mean seriously, last year Tyler Perry was the highest grossing film maker in Hollywood. And Pacific Rim actually looks like a movie worth watching. This movie WILL make money.

Extra tidbit: I'm concerned that it will be a CGI Overkill - too much style over substance. But I'm sure it will be a hit Blu Ray demo disc.

This is a Guillermo Del Toro movie. It will be tons of great style, but there will be just as much great substance...

I know. In my mind, I was thinking of Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman. I know it's an entire different premise by another different director. The movie has so much potential but it has too much CGI that it became an overkill. Hopefully it won't be the same case as Pacific Rim.
