A new Brood?

10.01.2007
With films like A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE and EASTERN PROMISES, director David Cronenberg has proven he's still on top of his game. Time to remake some of his old stuff!

Spyglass has dug up Cronenberg's early monsterpiece THE BROOD for a sticky revamp, courtesy of writer Cory Goodman. The original 1979 terror treat starred Oliver Reed as a therapist whose innovative technique causes patients to purge negative emotions through gruesome body horrors and rage-beasts birthed by an angered mother. One can assume the previous rubber creatures will be replaced with computer-generated biters.

Goodman also penned the script for the KUNG FU remake and the adaptation of the comic PRIEST, about a gunslinging vampire-hunting holy man in the Old West. Another of Cronenberg's early works, the head-popper SCANNERS, is undergoing the remake treatment from SAW man Darren Bousman.
Extra Tidbit: Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore (LORD OF THE RINGS) has provided the score for most of Cronenberg's films.
