A new Evil Dead?

09.08.2008

For years, Sam Raimi has fielded questions about another sequel in the horror classic EVIL DEAD series, and his company Ghost House has floated the possibility of a remake, but so far nothing has crawled from the fruit cellar.

So how about a version... with song? The popular off-Broadway play EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL might be the closest we get to seeing our beloved buffoon Ash killing Deadites on the big screen at any point in the future. The show producers are reportedly talking with Raimi about making a film version based on the stage show, intended to be shot in gloriously gory 3-D (watch out for that eye!).

The original show, which ran in Toronto and New York, took an operatic approach to Raimi's bloodbath (complete with splatter zone), featuring tunes such as "What the F*ck Was That?", "Look Who's Evil Now", "Good, Bad, I'm the Guy with the Gun", and "All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons".

Extra Tidbit: Anyone out there get to see the stage show?

no...

...sorry. No Bruce Campbell, no Evil Dead. Just do the sequel starting from the alternate version were Ash wakes up in the post-apocalyptic future. Hell, that can even explain his age difference between movies.

Id have to say, id see it! but I doubt there isnt a studio out there that would pick it up. They could just do a recording of the stage show, and put it on DVD, for all those fans who are unfortunate enough to live some where else in america other then NY. The way i see it, if you dont live in CA or NY your treated like second class citizens when it comes to shit like that!

YES.

I saw the musical in New York about two years ago and absolutely loved it! It'll be awesome to see it as a movie.

Awesome!

A must-see for any splatter fan! Funnier than the movie and packed with great songs. It's easily the best movie-turned-play since Rocky Horror at Circle in the Square with Sebastian Bach!

Yes, Yes and YES!!!!

What a great week for news! Spider-man 4 and 5, Ghostbusters 3 and now this! I saw this show a year and a half ago in Toronto in the old Second City space across from Gretzky's. I didn't know what to expect, but after I saw it I was just stunned. It was amazing.

I've seen a lot of musicals and adaptations of said musicals are never really great. But an Evil Dead musical would be fantastic. I've been telling my friends to see it in Toronto if they can (but we're all in Vancouver so that's

I've been telling my friends to see it in Toronto if they can (but we're all in Vancouver so that's tough) but if it comes out as a musical... and in 3d!!!! then they'll finally get to see what I've been singing along to for the past year and a half!

How did a housewares employee land the perfect girl?

All the men in my life keep getting killed by Candarian Deamons!

and who can forget:

What the @$#* was that?

I saw it about a month and some change back and it was simply fucking amazing. As an evil dead fan it far surpassed any expectations I had for it. The lead dude was mucho talented and the rest of the cast was fantastic as well. The tunes were fun, the reimagining of the story was done with a fan's touch and it was pretty much the most fun I'd had out in a while.

I got to see the show a few times and it was simply amazing. Pretty much the coolest thing ever. Every time there's been a rumor of Evil Dead being remade, I've come along and said the only way to do it was to base it off of the musical. I'd love it if this actually happened.
