A remake of An American Werewolf in London still threatens to become real

08.05.2010by:

It's been over a year since we heard that Dimension wanted to remake the hairy, scary monster masterpiece AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, and while the horror faithful figured that following silence was a positive, no such luck.

Dimension hasn't forgotten about repackaging and/or defecating on your memories of the terrifying John Landis classic, and (despite their ongoing and much-publicized financial woes) the studio is looking for a writer to "give it a modern spin" -- and the LA Times says it could be Fernley Phillips, who wrote the Jim Carrey attempted-thriller THE NUMBER 23.

While once a haven for genre goodies, Dimension has more recently focused on anything but original material -- future plans include more SCARY MOVIE and SCREAM entries, another sequel to their HALLOWEEN remake, and new versions of HELLRAISER and SCANNERS, among others.

Extra Tidbit: Seriously -- was nothing learned from AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS?

' the fuck is a modern spin?

There is nothing in that script that dates the film. What exactly would give this thing a modern spin? No doubt iPhones, Jersey Shore references and a lame Top-40 soundtrack. In other words... SOMETHING THAT WOULD DATE THE FILM COMPLETELY! Fuck, people. Remake the bad movies, for Pete's sake.

Perfectly said, I can't even leave an actual response of my own.

This is one of the major reasons why I hate Dimension/The Weinsteins.

The subway prowl scene in London felt so real and bonechilling. And it was in no small way due to the animatronic werewolf. The beast itself didn't look too realistic, but it more than made up for it in being frightening as hell. I have yet to see a single CGI monster that is genuinely creepy or scary like the werewolf, or even Chucky during the factory chase at the end of Child's Play 2. Animatronic puppets are extra scary because they move and emote entirely within the Uncanny Valley. CGI

This is horrible news. I hope the remake bombs. The Number 23 was garbage...

....And I agree. While it doesn't compare to the original and the visuals looking back at it were pretty bad, An American Werewolf in Paris is a guilty enjoyable film for me and it actually gave me the chills when I was a kid

I look forward to UNpopular Opinion: "American Werewolf in Paris is better than London"! Sheesh. In either case, this could potentially be absolutely horrible.

I'm tired of hollywood remaking classic horror movies. Next thing thing you know there is gonna be remakes to classics like Burnt Offerings, The Legend of Hellhouse, and Rosemary's Baby.

assholes Uzbekistan

I just saw this movie a few days ago and am shocked that there is even talk of a remake. The movie is perfect, why not push the original to a new genration instead of remaking and "giving a modern spin" to it. I will not even spend time or money on this. Hope your reading this Dimension.

Yeah, this might be my personal version of Unpopular Opinion, but I enjoyed American Werewolf in Paris. Good gore, evil werewolf gang, smart-ass ghosts, Julie Delpy topless. Fine film.
