Aaron Johnson cast as Cyclops in X-Men: First Class

Jul. 8, 2010by:

Remember those reports (and photos) of KICK-ASS star Aaron Johnson having lunch with X-MEN: FIRST CLASS director Matthew Vaughn and star James McAvoy? Turns out it was, after all, not just a friendly get-together.

According to Ain't It Cool sources, Johnson is "one hundred percent locked" to star in the film as a younger version of Cyclops. Johnson would join a cast that includes McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto and Alice Eve as Emma Frost. Other roles reportedly being cast in the film are Banshee and Beast though no actors have been confirmed for either. I'd imagine they'd also need a Jean Grey but so far no word on whether she's in the film. Storm could also be a candidate but since Angel and Iceman were cast younger in the X-MEN franchise, they probably will be left of FIRST CLASS (unless they have an Icebaby).

I'd love to see Fox make a big splash at Comic-Con this year with the FIRST CLASS cast showing up. I don't think it's likely but Fox is known for surprises (see: BORAT and Hugh Jackman's appearance for WOLVERINE). It'd certainly be a great way to relaunch the franchise...

Extra Tidbit: You think Jackman will make a cameo in this?

I can see that for sure...

I think he'd do a terrific job after proving his acting chops in KICK-ASS. This movie has phenomenal casting so far.

My list for some of the female roles to be filled:

Storm/Aurora Munroe - Zoe Saldana
Jean Grey - Lyndsy Fonseca

it's Ororo Munroe, man. But otherwise great choices.

I think this could work and I want to see how it turns out. I mean Aaron Johnson could pull off brooding well. I hope they make Cyclops the bad ass soldier this time and not the pussy ass crying prick we saw in the movies.

That depends on how much Singer is involved. He's responsible for making Cyclops a little bitch who was only there to make Wolverine look even better by comparison.

Eww... I'm not seeing it at all. I think Aaron could have played someone else, but not Scott Summers. What was wrong with the guy who played Cyclops in the Wolverine movie?

They DID Cast Beast already...

...I even read it on THIS very site.

Anyway, as far as Johnson playing Cyclops, I still think the kid has zero charisma, but its fitting considering he's playing one of the most popular tight-asses in comic history haha

Wolverine

I would imagine they'd find somewhere to stick Wolverine in. An X-Men movie without Wolverine is like a day without sunshine. Besides, how many more pictures does he have left on his deal? I'm sure he'd like to knock one more off that count.

Continuity

It seems like now is the best time to make a couple changes. Fix what X3 messed up. Not a total-reboot...but a retelling of events. If you build it, they will come. If you pretend The Last Stand/Origins didn't happen, we will forget. Otherwise you're just digging yourself a grave. Some of the characters deserve redemption.

Still not feeling this movie

I mean the cast is decent and all, but each addition seems to just further fuck up continuity (was the guy who played Cyclops in the Wolverine film really THAT useless? And How can Xavier look like McAvoy when Cyclops was picked up by Patrick Stewart in a helicopter at the end of that movie also?)

I say we scrap all this and just make a documentary with Kelsey Grammer going about his day-to-day life but in full Beast costume.

Thats great but....

They need to make sure to stay close to continuity on this one. if this is first class...then its Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Angel and Iceman. Storm didnt come around until Wolverine did, so if HE's not involved, she shoudn't be. So far so good, but i hope they don't fuck this up. But i have faith because its X-men, and i'm a die-hard fan at heart. I eagerly await more news.

But if they are keeping with the first X-men movie, Storm was a teacher in the school, and Bobby Drake aka Iceman, was a student, so it sounds correct so far.

This is lining up to be great.

Every single casting decision has been great.

I would be excited about the movie since X-Men has been one of the better comic adaptations as of late. However, the biggest thing that concerns me if the continuity, or lack thereof, in these films. They need to really start being faithful to the books, rather than changing the plot to make it appear more exciting or marketable.

I'm OK with Johnson as Cyke, even though I don't get why they don't use the guy from X-Men Origins : Wolverine...
But, if scott is in the team, then it takes place after Wolverine, where we saw Xavier played by Patrick Stewart... So, how can he be played by a MUCH younger actor in THIS film ? It would mean that this film is OUT of X-Men movies continuity... Oh, sorry I almost forgot it was a Fox movie for woch continuity is like quality : an option !

I'm just going to erase The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine from my mind and not worry about continuity. I'm thinking of this as a re-imagining of the franchise rather than in the film series. And with a pretty great director, i'm kinda looking forward to this.

Very cool casting. He definitely looks like cyclops. This is great casting so far, I just wish Joseph Gordon Levitt was playing Magneto instead.

Johnson is good as Cyclops but as far as continuity goes I would have prefered Pocock and Tozzi as Cyc and Emma but since Singer is back they're probabbly gonna tie in first class with the first two Singer directed X-films and are totally ignoring X3.

Fuck the Film Cotinuity

I hope we're starting completely fresh based on the COMIC CONTINUITY. Forget the Singer films, its time to actually get all this shit right.
