Aaron Taylor-Johnson wasn't always sold on playing Quicksilver in Avengers 2

05.06.2014

Aaron Taylor-Johnson previously shared his excitement at the prospect of playing Quicksilver in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON last year before the official announcement that he was cast in Joss Whedon's mega-sequel. Now, with filming underway and some spy photos showcasing the British actor in his costume alongside his on screen twin played by Elizabeth Olsen, Taylor-Johnson has shared some info about what almost kept him from taking on the character.

In an interview with I Am Rogue, the star shared a conversation he had with Whedon before Taylor-Johnson began shooting GODZILLA.

"He said to me, 'Do you want to be in AVENGERS 2? There is a super hero I’m thinking of for you.' The thing for me was for him, 'Why add any more super heroes to this thing?' He said, 'No, there are these two characters that I want to bring in to like f*ck with the Avengers and not be just an add on.' He told me a little bit about the writing and I said that the only reason I would want to do it is if it is a character that can still stand out."

"You know, you’ve got five of the most awesome super heroes, ten I suppose, there are about ten Avengers now, and they are all movie stars. You’ve got such a huge cast, what the hell difference is it going to make if I come on the scene? So it was the character and that took about a year of going back and forth about it. It took a while but I’m super happy to be in that one."

From what we can gather from the post-credits scene in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are going to start under the control/influence of HYDRA and Baron Von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann) before joining up with The Avengers. This will allow for some in-fighting amongst the new characters and the existing super hero squad before moving into a more unified effort versus Ultron.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen are teaming up this summer in GODZILLA where they play husband and wife before playing siblings in next year's AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. There must be some kind of chemistry there that made them so desirable for the roles. It also begs the question if they will be phasing out any older Avengers for future sequels in favor of this duo.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON will hit screens on May 1, 2015.
