ABC renews Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. & calls in Agent Carter to series!

May. 9, 2014by: Paul Shirey

Good news for fans of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as the show has been renewed for a second season. Although it got off to a rocky start, the show has built a steady following throughout its freshman season. With some solid twists and turns, as well as some guest appearances from a number of Marvel-based heroes and villains, the show has managed to find its footing as it closes in on its finale next week.

In addition, ABC has also ordered the long-rumored Agent Carter series, which will bring back star Hayley Atwell to the role of Peggy Carter, whom she portrayed in both CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER and most recently in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER.

Here's the show description from ABC:

It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.

The network has also renewed Castle, Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, Once Upon a Time, Resurrection, Revenge, Scandal, and The Goldbergs.

What do you guys think? Are you excited for a second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Can Agent Carter work as a series?

OK

AOS really morphed into a good show but I don't understand why everyone thinks a Peggy Carter is a good idea.

I'm willing to continue following Agents of SHIELD for another season, but I wonder where it will go in terms of story. If season 2 is more like the 1st half of season 1 instead of the 2nd half, I might lose interest. Either way, I expect a Sharon Carter cameo in the next season. She's already on Revenge which is on ABC, so it seems possible.

From all the minuses it looks like a lot of haters are butthurt that SHIELD got good and rewarded those loyal enough to know it would.

Agents of Shield got its act together about 16 episodes into the series, which was too late for a lot of viewers. The end of the first season was much improved and tied in nicely with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was a smart move. If they can maintain the pace of the series end and make an effort to tie it in with other events in the Marvel cinematic universe then Agents Of Shield could be worth sticking with. I'm glad I gave it chance and stuck with it beyond the early part of

Certainly the series isn't as well thought of as it could have been.

I'm getting that feeling as well and that's too bad b/c it's one of the better shows on TV and deserves to have it's story fully told.

Their plan was for season 4 to be Red Dragon. However doing the flaming wheel chair bit in the preview for tonight's episode has me worried that they're wrapping it up. It's a shame cause it's the best show on television right now. Way better than Bates Motel and American Horror Story.

Yeah I saw that I'm hoping that it's just a homage to Red Dragon, and I was reading an interview with Bryan Fuller where he says he's been anticipating the show being cancelled and is shopping it around, it's be great if netflix picks it up

Yup confirmed. Variety reported it, Twitter, Bryan Fuller. Season 3 on its way. I guess we have the international market to thank for it getting renewed

This season had Sif guest starring. Next season should have the Falcon, War Machine, maybe even Hawkeye. Winter Soldier and Agents of SHIELD changed the status quo so that Hydra is not only still around but has bases all over the world. What's left of SHIELD has to pull together. It's not enough to have cameos from random agents anymore: the vast majority of SHIELD agents have either turned themselves in or become agents of Hydra.

The Peggy Carter series also has some potential. There's Peggy Carter, Howard Stark. Tipplet's grandfather*, that's three characters who will be in the show for certain. They'll want Tommy Lee Jones to guess star as the 40s equivalent of Nick Fury. Neal McDonough has expressed interest to play Timothy 'Dum Dum' Dugan again and David Hasselhof has said he'd be willing to appear as a background character as a homage to the Fox SHIELD series that had a televised pilot but never went to series.

*Tipplet's grandfather was probably Gabe Jones, played by Derek Luke. Toby Jones will probably return as Arnim Zola. The rest of the Howling Commandoes were Jacques Dernier (Bruno Ricci), Jim Morita (Kenneth Choi) and James Montgomery Falsworth (JJ Feild).

SHIELD has grown on me a fair bit. It's fun and they're using Bill Paxton very well, and they've managed to tie it in to the events of Cap 2 satisfyingly enough. I don't really see the need for a Peggy Carter series as there's no way it will move the whole universe forward, seeing as it will be taking place in the past, but I do like Hayley Atwell and Peggy Carter is a decent character to build a show around. I hope the two characters from Item #47 eventually turn up in Agents of SHIELD, I

So happy to read this news! Shield truly deserves a second season. It's become one of my favorite shows this season, and I can't wait to see how they continue to incorporate the plots from the feature films, especially with avengers 2 coming up soon!
