Abrams directs Trek!

Amidst a nebula of online conjecture and semantic arguments, the proverbial bullshit has finally been bisected. JJ Abrams will indeed be directing the next STAR TREK movie, Paramount’s attempt to give the franchise a kick in the dilithium crystals.

Abrams wrote the screenplay and had been announced as a producer, but hadn’t been officially attached as director until now (rumors arose that he had moved off the project completely, further fueled by his recent attachment to develop Stephen King’s DARK TOWER series). The creator of ALIAS, exec of LOST and director of M:I3 will be turning back the clock on Kirk and Spock, chronicling their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and their first space mission.

So that, as they say, is that. Between this and INDIANA JONES 4 actually moving forward in an official capacity, what the hell is there left to speculate about? I suppose we’ll just have to fabricate something…
