Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter finally gets some footage, albeit without any fangs (update: new poster!)

Jan. 16, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER is one movie I am rather unsure about.

AbeLincolnVampHunterPosterOn the one hand it's Abraham Lincoln slaying slavery in public and vampires in private. I've been wishing for a while for both a Civil War period piece and a solid vampire action movie, though I had no idea they'd come packaged together. It also boasts a killer cast (Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Alan Tudyk, and Rufus Sewell) and is directed by Timur Beckmambetov (NIGHT WATCH, WANTED).

That being said, here's the other hand: it's Abraham Lincoln killing vampires, based on a gimmicky book written by Tim Burton's new golden boy Seth Grahame-Smith which, while I have not read, I have been told is far from as good as the title should suggest. But either way, the movie is nearing its release date of June 22nd, and so the promotional materials are starting to roll out.

Which leads me to share with you this usual sort of behind the scenes video where everyone praises what's going on and we see lots of shots of Benjamin Walker (as Lincoln) making speeches in front of a green screen. So there isn't anything too thrilling here, but seeing any partof the movie in action does excite me a little. A little. And Benjamin Walker does look and sound like he has the gravitas to pull off the character of Lincoln, for these purposes anyway. If nothin else, it's at least nice to see some footage at all. So how about a trailer sooner rather than soon, huh folks?

Incidentally, the best pull quote that could be asked for comes from Mr. Lincoln himself:"Doing a movie with Timur is like doing a movie with a really professional six year old."Sounds about right. Not bad necessarily, just... well about right.

I read the book and I enjoyed it even though it started off a little slow. I am sure that it will move faster on film. Definitely looking forward to this.

Looking forward to this. Heard nothing but good things about the book.

As for the tidbit, not a historical figure but: Steven Spielberg versus The Aliens. Let's actually pit him against his favorite film subject.

Nothing to do with the trailer. Hail me with dislikes if you must.

Not available in my area. What is the point?
It'll be online in a few hours on some youtube page or other website who will get my patronage instead. You'd think people would want you to know they're making a fucking movie so why do I have to be prevented from following it.
SORRY. Just the third time today this has happened and it's incredibly frustrating. It's called the WORLD WIDE WEB for a reason.

WTF is going on? I don't touch anything and I'm suddenly redirected to the MTV website.

Oh and, Seth Grahame-Smith writes one movie for Tim Burton and he is suddenly his new golden boy ? Is that supposed to be a cool and clever quick judgment ?

I never read the book but I'm very interested in this movie. The concept is great and Timur knows how to make a crazy action film (I never LOVE his movies but I'm always entertained by them). I just wish that Trent Reznor was still doing the score for the film, that would have been amazing.

Titbit:

Lewis and Clark Meet Bigfoot

or

General Santa Anna vs. The Chupacabra
(The Real story behind how he lost his leg)

Im positive about this.. Timur movies are at the least, fun!

I would love to see a Ninja Gandhi... peace leader during the day, kick-ass ninja killer at night! And it should be aimed towards the awfully good column... hell yeah
