Ackroyd talks GB3

02.23.2009

The truth is no one really knows anything about GHOSTBUSTERS 3 right now. Perhaps the screenwriters - Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky - know where they're taking the movie but talk of actors and start dates is awfully premature at this point. But Dan Ackroyd spoke about the movie publicly this weekend and while his comments are rather insignificant, it's Ackroyd and GHOSTBUSTERS 3 and everyone is getting themselves excited. Ackroyd participated in an online chat to promote a House of Blues in Boston and inevitably a question about GHOSTBUSTERS came up to which he replied, "Script is commenced early summer. Hope to be in production by late fall 2009." So they're not even working on the script until summer? And they want production to begin this fall? Of course Ackroyd's "hope" that the film will go into production this fall doesn't mean anything in the grand scope of things. Robert Downey, Jr. hoped Mickey Rourke would be in IRON MAN 2 but we see how that's turning out. So while that can be looked at as a super best case scenario, I would wager that GHOSTBUSTERS 3 will not be going into production (unless he's talking early pre-production) this fall. Eventually, I'm sure but for now let's just wait and see...

Extra Tidbit: Can you believe that a film directed by Steven Spielberg, written by Robert Zemeckis and starring Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi at the height of their SNL fame was such a huge bomb?

As long as the original cast comes back, this will be a cool movie. The Ghostbusters were always out of shape fat guys. So the fact that their old now only works better for the characters. I think this movie is a good idea.

I give up...

Time for a "gut feeling" or an "obvious judgment" Ghost Busters 3 sorry to say -ain't gonna happen-its obvious NO Studio has real interest in this project given all the years our beloved Dan Ackroyd has tried to garner serious interest aka=$$$ towards a third Ghost Busters film. Too Bad,I had hoped for another over last near 20 years now. (please no future RE-BOOT GB film with some young cast) ;(

1941

Actually, 1941 captured a lot of the paranoia going on in the U.S. at the time. I re-watched this again last year, and it's amazing how relevant in was with the post 9-11 U.S.

As for GB3, Ackroyd has been trying to get this thing pushed through for about 5 years now. For the last two years, there have even been panels set up to announce it at Comic Con, only to have the panel canceled the day before. When they actually have footage in the can, then maybe I'll believe.
