AD movie? Rejoice!

Nov. 21, 2008by: Daniel Barna

One of the biggest crimes of the past decade was the premature cancellation of the brilliant FOX comedy series "Arrested Development". If you're a fan, you're a friend of mine. If not, well I feel sorry for you. For those of you that are fans, it's time to join hands and sing happy songs. The rumours of an AD film are close to coming true.

Mitch Hurwitz, the show's creator, and Ron Howard, its producer and narrator, are reportedly closing deals for the long-gestating project. Stars Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Jeffrey Tambor have been talking about this as a possibility for a while now, and we fans have been holding our collective breath.

Hurwitz is on board to write the film as well as direct it, and Howard will obviously have a key role as well. There's nothing I would love more than a chance to see the Bluth family on the big screen and perhaps one last glimmer of Tobias in a pair of cut-off jean shorts. Yum.
Extra Tidbit: Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor. Wow.

They're laughing with me, Michael!

This is truly awesome news, but didn't Cera say he wasn't interested a while ago? Has he been confirmed? I refuse to see it without Cera.

HIP HIP HOORAY!

I absolutely love AD. I was one of those people who missed when it was actually on tv(only watching maybe 4 times). But one day I saw season one on dvd for $20. So I took the "plunge" and bought it. Needless to say I watched season one in one night and bought season two that next Friday. Now I of course havhave all three seasons. Great show.

Look at banner Michael!

Seriously, if you haven't seen the show, do yourself a favor and get it on DVD. You won't be able to stop - it's like meth but without the super-clean house.

Army had a half day.

Love the idea

but its just another excuse for Cena to act completely the same in another role again. amazing how this kid manages to make millions of dollars in movie after movie laying the exact same character in everyone of them

Okay, we have ONE article where Michael Cera shows a lack of enthusiasm for an AD film (he didn't even said no), and suddendly he's an ingrateful bastard.

He didn't say he didn't liked the show, he just said he didn't think an AD film was a good idea. There's a big difference between giving your thoughts an hypothetical project and saying no to an actual script that Mitch Hurwitz wrote. There's no way anyone on the cast refuse, no way, and it's great news!

yea, I wouldn't mind cera being written out. After he spoke out against AD, I lost all respect. But this movie is going to be gold.

Hooray!

Been very excited about the prospect of an AD movie after hearing more and more rumors and whispers over the last few months. Makes 99% of modern comedies look like garbage, and would be a sure-fire success at the box office, thanks to the cult following it has nowadays.

i'm very excited to here that this is in motion, they need the whole cast though or it's just not the same.

and marketing was the main reason the show was cancelled, there's a video on youtube of an angry David Cross talking about it.

Ummmmmmmmmm

Did you guys not post an article within the last couple months of Michael Cera calling the idea of an 'Arrested Development' flick "stupid"?

Nice 'Extra Tidbit', for which research was obviously done.

michael cera

Honestly, they should kill cera in the first couple minutes, since he was such an ass about the possibilty of doing a movie... he should be kissing hurwitz's ass for making him famous, especially when there are plenty of actors that can and do play the stringy, squirrelly teenage dork.

Other than that, fantastic news ....

I didn't want to get my hopes up but I will now. One thing to factor in: the show has been a giant hit at Hulu.

don't blame fox, blame viewers

Fox did RIGHT for the first time by keeping it going for three FULL seasons. Too bad it didn't catch on to enough viewers to justify its' mainstay.

As for a movie... Until it's set in stone that it's happening, I'll keep holding my breath.

FOX should be punished severley for pulling the plug on what was the greatest TV show of all time. I for one can't wait for this movie! I hope it can get a somewhat wide release so I can see it when it hits the big screen. It better keep the same style the show was shot, i just think it would be weird to have it shot a different way.
