Adam Sandler's Ridiculous 6 for Netflix sports a monster casting line-up

We learned back in October that Adam Sandler signed a 4-picture deal with Netflix because . . . well, why not? You can argue the merits of his films until the cows come home but the fact of the matter is that they have an audience. Add to that the Netflix factor of being able to watch new content immediately, and it sounds like they both parties have a worthwhile deal going on. If anything, Adam Sandler has proved that he can put together a laundry list of names and word on the street is that his first netflix original, RIDICULOUS 6, will star no less than Sandler himself, Taylor Lautner, Nick Nolte, Blake Shelton, Whitney Cummings, Steve Buscemi, Rob Schneider, Dan Aykroyd, Will Forte, Nick Swardson, Terry Crews, Jon Lovitz, Vanilla Ice, Luke Wilson, Steve Zahn, Danny Trejo, Chris Parnell and Lavell Crawford. Phew! Get all that?

Some plot points according to The Wrap:

Adam Sandler will play an orphan raised by an Indian tribe with Lautner, Schneider, Wilson and Crews playing his half-brothers. Forte and Trejo will play the leaders of rival gangs and Vanilla Ice will play Mark Twain.

Sounds like the usual rundown with Sandler and crew although I'll admit that having this flick go straight to Netflix is an added incentive, albeit a small one. Given that Sandler signed a 4-picture deal, I'd like to see him experiment with something really different, although one can hardly blame him for delivering the safe picture first. With production starting soon, I imagine this one will hit Netflix before the year's end.

Production on RIDICULOUS 6 is expected to start in February.

If this and THE INTERVIEW are any indication, looks like Eminem needs to be hit up more often for comedic roles.

Extra Tidbit: Do you have any more interest in checking out this film since it's going straight to Netflix?

Pixels will be the big return for Sandler. It sounds amazing.

Pixels will be the best Sandler comedy since the 90s. Though Zohan was pretty awesome and hard to beat in that category.

I thought the Ridiculous 6 was a description of his last movies he has done. Sad seeing where his career has gone but maybe just maybe Pixels will be good because I dig the concept & know the short it's based on.

Not gonna lie, I really liked Zohan and That's my Boy. When I need a fix of lowbrow, juvenile and sophomoric humour, I know where to turn to. His romantic comedies are shit though, as was Jack & Jill.

That headline made me do a double-take. For a second there I thought, "Wait there's a "Netflix Sports"? How have I not heard of this?? Does it compete with ESPN??" and then I reread the headline. Sometimes I think you guys word your headlines to test whether everyone's paying attention :P

I have no strong feelings over an Adam Sandler lead Netflix exclusive. He has a unique ability to get people in his movies, I won't deny that. But I won't watch them either.

How does Netflix gauge the profitability of this kind of investment?

Do they calculate the number of new customer sign ups that will occur based on a given series' existence, a given actor's presence, etc? Do they make so much money from subscriptions that the licensing fees they pay the studios are that well off-set to allow them to produce this original content for a real budget and then still make money from new customers signing up to watch the movie?

Take out Lautner, Schneider, Swardson, and Lovitz...

And this cast would be more appealing.

I'm in!

Sounds like a strange premise. I love how it is direct to Netflix. I'll definitely give this a shot!

I was secretly hoping the move to Netflix would allow him to take on more edgier fare, but this sounds like his usual dreck. Pass.

The few R-rated comedies Sandler has been in (most recently, THAT'S MY BOY) haven't been as successful as his PG and PG-13 comedies. And since he only cares about money...

He'd have a better shot at an R-rated comedy being successful if it wasn't straight up Happy Madison, like possibly that one with Will Ferrell one he was rumored for a couple years ago.

I do concur with the notion that Sandler should be aiming for edgier fare with Netflix considering it doesn't rely on box office gross.
