Adam Scott says a Party Down movie might be shooting this summer

Sep. 13, 2011by: Paul Tassi

I thoroughly enjoyed the two seasons and twenty episodes of Party Down when it aired on Starz, but I wasn't in the camp that it needed particularly many more installments to tell its story about misfit caterers.

But some devotees of the show put it in the Arreseted Development/Firefly camp of "killed too soon shows" and mourned its passing the way they might a relative. Well fans of the show might be in luck, as Adam Scott says plans are moving forward to shoot a Party Down movie this summer with cast members like Lizzy Caplan, Martin Starr and Jane Lynch returning.

"We’re like 90% there, we’re hoping to do it maybe next summer, if everyone’s schedules work out and the guys get time to write a script. They have kind of a skeleton of a story worked out so we know where it’s going to go but we just have to kind of cross the t’s and dot the i’s, or something. But Starz are being super cool and they’re going to let us do it, and we’re all excited, we all want to do it.”

Again, I know this show has its hardcore fanbase, but if an Arrested Development movie is taking eons to get made, it would be impressive for Party Down to end up with its own feature. It does have less cast members to corral, but I also think that it won't have a terribly large amount of name recognition to the general public. The reason it went off the air after all is that not that many people were watching it, and as such, I don't think most people will have heard of it. It's definitely a very funny show don't get me wrong, but I will be very impressed if this movie does end up seeing the light of day.

Extra Tidbit: Raise your hand if you have a thing for Lizzy Caplan.

Extra Tidbit: Waving it in the air like I just don't care!
This news makes me incredibley happy. They just did a Party Down reunion on Childrens Hospital and it was really great to see mostly everyone back.

Please let this happen. 'Party Down' was one of the greatest, funniest shows on television and it was sadly cancelled before its time. This is one television show that I would love to see get its own movie because the show WAS that great, and it would great to see all the characters from both seasons return.

And my hand is raised.

I like the show. Don't love it, but I like it quite a bit. Best episode is the High School Reunion one.

Hand Raised

Lizzy Caplan was exceptionally attractive on Party Down and I'm all for a movie. They could re-tool the format ever so slightly so that it'd make sense as a feature and it'd work very well as a stand-alone comedy for new viewers and as a respectful and full circle farewell to fans.

I'm currently an episode away from finshing my third re-watch of the show...

First time I watched it on my own, second with my brother, third with my mother. I'm of the opinion that this is the best, most subtly touching and filthily hilarious comedy-dramas of the 2000s. It's right up there with the The Office. The characters are so strongly defined and the feeling of dread and desperation is heat breaking and hilarious. So I really, really, really hope this happens.
I think a movie would be relatively easy. It's very cheap to make (possibly less than 2 million budget

I think a movie would be relatively easy. It's very cheap to make (possibly less than 2 million budget dollors seeing as everyone famous is friends with the creators/actors), all the cast are famous enough to (just about) make back their budget. Plus, even if it doesn't make it cinemas, there's no shame in it being a TV-movie.

Raising two hands here, boss

I hope this comes together.

And Lizzy Caplan is so bangin' it hurts.

Hand raised real high. Lindsay Kaplan is smokin'. You can't tell if she wants to fuck your brains out or just steal your wallet. So sexy.

Oh, and a Party Down movie sounds cool too.
