Ahnold talks cameos

03.11.2009

Much has been made of Arnold Schwarzenegger stepping out of cinematic retirement--albeit briefly--for reported cameos in TERMINATOR SALVATION, and for his old friend Sly Stallone's wink-wink actioner THE EXPENDABLES. If Schwarzenegger were in fact making an appearance in the new Terminator film, I would be quite disappointed in McG. It actually looks like he's hit this flick out of the park, and Schwarzenegger's presence would probably wreak of a publicity stunt more than anything. Apparently, the Governor agrees. TheArnoldFans.com spoke to Schwarzenegger at the "2009 Arnold Classic" (huh?) this weekend and here's what he had to say regarding the two reported cameos. First, TERMINATOR SALVATION:

But you know as I said to the director when they began that I wish them the best of luck, that I'm happy that they move forward with the franchise, I am very happy with where I am with my profession as the governor and they should try to find a way of doing a story that does not include me at all, not even one single shot in it. I don't believe in that. To kind of have them go out and promote the movie and say you know Arnold is in the movie and everyone thinks that I'm the Terminator and in fact you only see one second of me in there and so I don't think that's the right thing to do. And you know that's the danger of that, and that's why I feel reluctant to be part of the movie in the first place. So it doesn't get promoted that way.

And now, THE EXPENDABLES:

So I... naturally when he (Stallone) asked me if I would do a cameo, which will just be something quick, like I walk out of a hotel or out of a office building and he will walk up and we will bump into each other and there will be some mumbling and then we will walk off. So it will be something very simple, that will be again, just a cameo, so that's what we're going to do. I promised him I'd do that and I'm looking forward to that. Ok? Good.

So, there you have it. It's nice to see that Schwarzenegger is able to let go of The Terminator franchise and allow it to move beyond him. Respect. As for THE EXPENDABLES, apparently this film is a nod to action movies from the days of yore, so it's fitting that the big man will get some screen time with fellow legend Stallone one last time. That will truly be an epic moment.

Extra Tidbit: What are you more excited for. TERMINATOR SALVATION or THE EXPENDABLES?

RELPY TO ALCIBIADES

'ACTUALLY, EXPENDABLES IS PG-13'
He did say it would not be a 'bloodbath', but that doesn't mean that it will be PG-13. I figure it simply means that he will not be cutting people in half with a machine gun.

Michael Biehn

Michael Biehn would be way more relevant than Arnold in T-4. I just don't know why the tv series or this movie deny him the return of that role. It would be great to see him play Reese again.

Arnold IS in T4

Quite a misleading summary, there. He never said he's *not* granting his likeness to T4. He just said that when they started out, he made it clear not to center the film around him, or use his likeness for promotion - neither of which they've done. McG has already confirmed that Arnold's likeness will be in the film (a CGI rendering on some other guy's body, with Arnie doing voiceover). However, the film isn't being marketed as a continuation and Arnie's "cameo" of sorts isn't being promoted.

I can't believe...

...I'm saying this as a Sci-Fi fan, but I'm looking forward to THE EXPENDABLES more than T4. Too many robots go a long way. TF2 and T4 in one summer....neah. The expendables sounds like it's gonna be good, especially with so many action legends :D

I still have this theory that if Arnold were to return to acting, all of Hollywood's problems would be solved. Not that it really makes any logical sense, but call it a hunch.

I'm looking forward to both of 'em, but I'm definitely more amped for The Expendables. The Arnie cameo is just the icing on an already awesome sounding cake.

They may not have been as good towards the end but I really miss Arnold action flicks. Damn that political career...

Actually.....

It'd be cool if Arnie did a scene in which he was a human but had been caught by the machines and was being used to model the terminators on or he was working for them designing the [link] stolen from Alien 3 a bit I guess but would be cool and tie up a loose end.

Actually, Expendables is PG-13

according to Sly himself who said in an interview that it wasn't gonna be a "bloodbath" (I'm paraphrasing here); the jury is still out however for T4's rating.

Both look/sound good so far to me

I'm glad the Arnold cameo in T4 is just a small thing. They just need to pay respect, and then move in the (hopefully) right direction with a serious sci-fi flick, and not a lame-ass action comedy masquerading as science fiction like half of past summer's movies (Hancock and Iron Man come to mind)

As for the cameo in The Expendables, I'm a bit more worried. From the sound of it, it looks a bit like Arnie's cameo in The Rundown. I thought they could come up with something more inspired, if

Expendables

EXPENDABLES for sure. a star-studded action movie with a solid R. unlike T4 which is now shooting for a PG13?????? T4 will now just be a Roland Emmerich movie if it gets the PG13 treatment.
