Jessica Alba wants to be an action hero damn it, and nothing can stop her, even if she has to buy a character herself!

That seems to be the case for her latest career move, where she put up a chunk of her own money to option THE INSIDERS, a series of Belgian graphic novels that will be turned into a film starring Alba and directed by JCVD’s Mabrouk el Mechri. See if you can understand why she wanted the property:

“Najah Cruz, a Columbian who is as deadly as she is beautiful. She has the weapons expertise and combat skills of a James Bond. At the secret request of the White House she infiltrates a worldwide mafia-like organization composed of businessmen and politicians and becomes the bodyguard of the organization’s leader.”

And while it would be great if a Latina actress who could actually, you know, act was taking on this seemingly badass role (Hayek and Cruz and Mendes, where are you?), it will at least be “hot” with Alba in it, though “good” is a different story altogether.

I’m not trying to be overly harsh on Alba, but for all her hype and hotness, she has yet to impress me with absolutely anything she’s been in. Her best role was in SIN CITY where she was SUPPOSED to overact the whole thing. I’ll give her a chance with this, but I’m not expecting much except a few choice ab shots and if we’re lucky a side-boob or two.
