Alba is an Insider

11.25.2009

Jessica Alba wants to be an action hero damn it, and nothing can stop her, even if she has to buy a character herself!

That seems to be the case for her latest career move, where she put up a chunk of her own money to option THE INSIDERS, a series of Belgian graphic novels that will be turned into a film starring Alba and directed by JCVD’s Mabrouk el Mechri. See if you can understand why she wanted the property:

“Najah Cruz, a Columbian who is as deadly as she is beautiful. She has the weapons expertise and combat skills of a James Bond. At the secret request of the White House she infiltrates a worldwide mafia-like organization composed of businessmen and politicians and becomes the bodyguard of the organization’s leader.”

And while it would be great if a Latina actress who could actually, you know, act was taking on this seemingly badass role (Hayek and Cruz and Mendes, where are you?), it will at least be “hot” with Alba in it, though “good” is a different story altogether.

I’m not trying to be overly harsh on Alba, but for all her hype and hotness, she has yet to impress me with absolutely anything she’s been in. Her best role was in SIN CITY where she was SUPPOSED to overact the whole thing. I’ll give her a chance with this, but I’m not expecting much except a few choice ab shots and if we’re lucky a side-boob or two.

Extra Tidbit: Copy and paste everything I've said here about Jessica Biel as well. And Scarlett Johansson most of the time.

I agree with you 100%.. Scarlett Jo just looks awkward in almost all of her movies. I could care less what any of these women do in their acting careers, they're nothing but pretty faces (for Scarlett Jo she's just a nice body). Give these roles to women who can act and have talent.

BAD LUCK!

I wish her well, she, J Garner and the other two actresses mentioned are all bad luck at the b.o. they are unable to carry a movie by themselves. At least Scarlet Jo has Woody Allen to look after her.

Jessica Alba. Great to look at, difficult to watch, when she's "acting". That's why Into The Blue was watchable.

Biel, Johannson and Mendes? Great to look at and easy to watch.

Jessica Biel?

Biel was decent enough in The Illusionist, but that could have just been a good movie propping up her performance, it's been a while since I saw it.

Wait...

Were you implying that Eva Mendes can act? If you were, please point out which movie she did that in. I'd really like to know.
EDIT: I realize that sounded kind of dickish, but seriously what was she actually good in? Anything spring to anybody's mind?

Training Day? Great movie.. yes.. but Eva Mendes small part was so subtle you don't even notice her acting. I think Mendes is terrible.. she completely took me out of We Own the Night too.

Sorry Paul, Wrong About ScarJo

Johansson has yet to impress you? Really? What movies of hers have you been watching? Even in subpar movies (Nanny Diaries, He's Just Not That Into You), she's damn solid.

This movie, could be good, we'll see.

Couldn't disagree more. Johnasson hasn't ever been solid in anything. She isn't the worst, but she is definitely not solid.
