Alex Cross sequel Double Cross is already actively in the works

Well that didn't take long.  Hell, the movie isn't even out yet.

Despite a very middling verdict from our own Chris Bumbray (who is far from alone in his opinion), ALEX CROSS is already set to have a sequel in the form of DOUBLE CROSS.  An adaptation of the 13th book in James Patterson's long-standing and highly successful series, DOUBLE CROSS comes with this plot set-up: Just when Alex Cross's life is calming down, he is drawn back into the game to confront a criminal mastermind like no other. The elaborate murders that have stunned Washington, DC, are the wildest that Alex Cross and his new girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, have ever seen. This maniac adores an audience, and stages his killings as spectacles in public settings. Alex is pursuing a genius of terror who has the whole city on edge as it waits for his next move. And the killer loves the attention, no doubt–he even sets up his own Web site and live video feed to trumpet his madness.

Tyler Perry is already signed on to return, which is just as well as his performance is the main positive singled out by most critics regarding ALEX CROSS.  There's no word as to whether the infinitely more lambasted Rob Cohen will also return to direct, but I would imagine Tyler will want to protect the solid work he's doing and seek to ensure that whomever is brought on to helm will be able to craft a good movie alongside/around his acting.  Tyler's focus on his acting - made possible by foregoing the writing/directing/producing responsibilities he normally takes on - seems to have paid off rather well.  Now c'mon Hollywood - let's get a good movie to go with that gamble.

Whom do you think 1) would be a good choice to direct and 2) the studio could afford on a smaller budget?Rachel Nichols nearly nude photo shoot

Would critics have reviewed ALEX CROSS better if Rachel Nichols had shown up like this? Probably not, but I certainly wouldn't have objected to her doing so one little bit...

Counting Chickens

They are going to either regret the hell out of this decision or that greenlight is gonna go red faster than this turd goes to video. Judging by the trailer (Tyler Perry looks about as frightening as RuPaul) and the critical response so far, unless the same jacklegs who run out to see Madea's parade of shit patronize a sequel, this is doomed. Too bad. I really liked the Morgan Freeman movies.

Not to defend this movie, because I have no interest in seeing it and consider Rob Cohen an awful director, but the critics were not too kind with the other Alex Cross movies either, the ones starring Morgan Freeman. Neither of them had very good directors either (Kiss The Girls was directed by Gary Fleder and Along Came A Spider had Lee Tamahori, who also directed the sequel to Rob Cohen's XXX). So going by critical reaction, none of the Alex Cross films could be labeled "good." But, as the

I'd say Paul Greengrass would be a good director for this genre...

"...Alex is pursuing a genius of terror..."

Does he never get bored with doing that? Every guy he's ever faced is a criminal genius. It's fucking boring, man.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure I've heard the same tagline for every one of Patterson's books. Alex Cross is after a criminal genius, unlike any he's ever seen... Just once, I'd like to hear Patterson go the way. "Alex Cross encounters a criminal unlike he's ever seen... A mentally handicapped kidnapper." Think about it! It'd be pretty hard for a world famous psychologist to figure out the next move of a man with no logic, common sense, or basic reasoning skills.

Let's hope Rob Cohen is kept from this or any other movie for that matter.....I cringe when I think he's still attached to the Monster Squad remake....

I really wish this was Idris Elba franchise, I just do not like Tyler Perry.

don't mess with Freeman

The casting people were fools for thinking Perry could be the next alex cross. how is an audience that knows him as another fat black chick going to respond to him as a badass?...they're going to laugh their asses off. Should've gone with Idris Elba or Michael Ealy....As for the Alex Cross Movies, Kiss The Girls was the best one.
