It's a big month for Alex Garland, the director of EX MACHINA (pictured above). Not only is his new film ANNIHILATION playing in theatres in the United States and available for viewing through the Netflix streaming service in other territories, and not only did DREDD star Karl Urban reveal that Garland secretly directed that film, but now FX has ordered a pilot for his tech thriller series idea Devs.

Garland will be writing and directing the pilot, as well as executive producing it alongside DNA TV and Scott Rudin Productions.

The synopsis:

A young computer engineer, Lily, investigates the secretive development division of her employer, a cutting-edge tech company based in San Francisco, which she believes is behind the disappearance of her boyfriend.

Eric Schrier, President of Original Programming for FX, said that Devs is

a captivating series from Alex Garland, building on his track record of groundbreaking work that challenges our notion of humanity amid the seemingly boundless promise of technology."

Garland has previously said that the story he was developing for Devs is meant to be told over the course of just one self-contained season, so hopefully FX will end up going ahead and ordering that full season.
