Alex Proyas to turn Milton into 3D with Paradise Lost epic

Ladies and gentlemen, I now present to you poetry in 3D. Alex Proyas has signed on to direct an upcoming 3D action film based on John Milton’s epic poem PARADISE LOST for Legendary Pictures (300, CLASH OF THE TITANS) and Warner Bros. Stuart Hazeldine had the unfortunate job of having to adapt Milton’s difficult prose into a modern narrative but was lucky enough to have Lawrence Kasdan provide a quick polish.

What exactly the film will focus on remains unclear but it seems the script may jettison the Adam and Eve storyline to focus more on the battle between Satan and the angels of heaven. You know, the kinda stuff that would make for a 3D action movie.

Proyas takes over the PARADISE LOST reigns from Scott Derrickson (THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL) who had been developing the film a few years ago. He had been in talks with Daniel Craig about starring as Satan, which was an inspired bit of casting but I don’t know if it’s anything Craig was interested in then, let alone now when his star power has risen considerably. There were also rumors that Guillermo del Toro was involved as a producer but there doesn’t seem to be any mention of his participation in the latest news.
