Alex Winter dishes more detail on the Bill and Ted 3 script

Mar. 12, 2012by: Paul Shirey

After announcing that a script was complete and turned in to the studio for a third BILL and TED outing last week, Alex Winter has dropped some details about the thematic elements of the sequel and what it will explore.

“The movies were always about rock and roll,” he said. “That was a big part of the movies, so [we’ll explore] what’s happened to rock and roll in the last twenty years.”

He added:

“The movie’s gonna get in and play with some of that stuff. Where’s rock, where are we, what’s happened to the whole idea of saving the world, or what hasn’t happened?”

Lastly, the most important thing:

"I think the reality is there probably will be another one."

Check out the full interview with MTV below:

Growing up with the BILL and TED films was a staple of my childhood. I wouldn't say it defined me, but damn if I didn't enjoy the shit out of those films and quote the hell out of 'em. There is so much potential for a third film, which would explore our titular heroes Bill S. Preston, esquire (Alex Winter) and Ted Theodore Logan (Keanu Reeves), who together form the band "Wyld Stallyns" as they've progressed in the last 20 years.  It sounds like Winter has a good grasp on how to tackle the time lapse and a game plan for how to execute the film, which is enough to get me jazzed to take another adventure/journey with these guys.

Stay tuned as this develops.

Extra Tidbit: With George Carlin having passed, I think a successor to the role could be Zack Galifianakis as Rufus' offspring. Just a thought. Who would you like to fulfill the role of Bill and Ted's guide?

I'm really concerned about the clothing style in the movie. The clothes need the pseudo-futuristic campiness as envisioned by designers in the late 80s and early 90s. I don't want to see any modern trendy influences (skinny jeans, and Justin Beiber hairdos - *shivers*). Bright color blocking, and sneakers with huge tongues are a MUST.

Bright color blocking, and sneakers with huge tongues are kind of whats the modern trendy influences are these days. kind of the reason why this movie would work right now.

PARTY ON DUDES!!

I loved the video interview. I always wondered what he looked like now. If I saw Alex on the street I might not have recognized him. He seems like a pretty cool dude! I hope the script is as great as he says, and I hope it gets made!

"...I said Plum."

As long as Sadler returns as Death, I'm in.

As a side note, at this point, wouldn't it be the biggest missed opportunity in the history of cinema if the third film wasn't "Bill & Ted's Excellent Journey to Wayne's World?"

Surely I can't be alone in thinking this.

Yeah no offense to Paul here, but replacing George Carlin with... Zach Galifinakis? That's insulting. I gotta go with GioFace and say that if they're going to go with a comedian... Louis CK would be fitting, or Lewis Black.. someone who still holds a bit of true grit in their standup.

Can't wait. I hope they're played, without full self parody, as perpetual creatures of the early 90's. (Would it be too much if one of them still used a cassette walk man? I guess it would.)

Impossible to replace Carlin...

but I think it would be a stroke of genius if they got Louis C.K. to be the new guide.
