Alicia Vikander cheats on Christoph Waltz in the trailer for Tulip Fever

It was recently announced that Alicia Vikander would be playing Lara Croft in the new TOMB RAIDER flick, but before she goes treasure-hunting . . . she has to get some portraits done. TULIP FEVER follows an artist (Dane DeHaan) who falls for a young married woman (Vikander) while he's commissioned to paint her portrait during the tulip mania of 17th century Amsterdam. Well, it looks like Vikander is the one with "tulip mania" if you know what I mean! Check out the trailer below!

According to IMDb, the film was shot back in 2014 and has been sitting on a shelf for the past two years. That's generally not a great sign, but I'm guessing those who are into these kinds of period pieces won't mind. It looks as though the entirety of the film, save for the last 10 minutes, is already in the trailer. In any case, at least director Justin Chadwick had enough sense to round up a solid cast. Also...was that Zach Galifianakis?!?

TULIP FEVER will open in theaters on July 15, 2016.

Tom Stoppard's name on the script got my attention

ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, Travesties and BRAZIL were brilliant and even SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE had its moments. As long as there's not too much studio interference, the script should be great.

Dane DeHaan deserves to be a bigger star than he is, IMO.

I'm not a big period-piece guy. But this looks intriguing and reminiscent of the work Jane Campion and John Madden did in the '90s (not surprisingly they name-drop Madden's "Shakespeare in Love" when crediting Tom Stoppard). I think it's really the casting that has me intrigued. Waltz seems less over-the-top in the trailer than usual, Judi Dench is at her best as authority figures, and what the heck are Zach Galifianakis and Mr. Schue doing here?
