Every once in a while, a Hollywood starlet comes along that makes me seriously consider dumping my girlfriend for the sole reason that "you're just not her, babe". Lindsay Lohan once occupied that position as did Kathy Bates (pre-MISERY, obvy). Now there's Amber Heard, the stunning blonde who set screens ablaze last summer in PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, and whose veritable "skills" prevented THE INFORMERS from going straight to DVD.

Heard--who could easily take the safe route and play your standard cinematic eye candy in mediocre films--seems to be determined for something more. She will star in, and produce AND SOON THE DARKNESS, the story of two American girls on a bike-riding trip in a remote part of Argentina. One of them goes missing, and the other must find her before darkness falls and shit hits the fan, so to speak. Fellow hottie Odette Yustman also stars in the film, which is a remake of the 1970 British thriller of the same name.

Heard's bold move as a producer and actress comes not in her choice of film, but rather in her choice to work outside of the Hollywood landscape. The France-based Studio Canal will co-produce and co-finance the film, with commercials helmer Marcos Efron making his feature directorial debut. I guess Heard is confident enough in her taste and abilities not to accept roles in SCARY MOVIE 67 and AMERICAN PIE: MISSION TO MARS. Good for you, babes.

The Rum Diary is a semi-biographical fictional story. But for the sake of marketing, it's labeled fiction - much like Fear & Laothing/LV

But still, I was stoked to hear Amber Heard cast as Chenault. And, yes, she was just about the sole reason I enjoyed Never Back Down as much as I did.

Now to cast her in my own, uh, ... home movie... ahem.

So she's currently set to film 4 high-profile movies (Zombieland, The Ward, The Rum Diaries, and now add this.)

Not to mention she has 6 movies set to come out in 2009 (The Informers, The Stepfather, The River Why, ExTerminators, The Joneses and hopefully All The Boys Love Mandy Lane)

By the end of 2010 I am confident that she will be one of Hollywood's most in-demand young actresses. I'm glad, she was fantastic in Mandy Lane, Pineapple Express, Remember The Daze, and the little known cult show Hidden Palms. Hell, she even made Never Back Down better than it would have been without her.

Whatever happened to "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane"? Did I blink and miss it?

WOW WHAT AN ASS
Very nice picture choice as usual. Good to see her getting good roles as of late. I can't wait to see her naked again (Alpha Dog)
