American Horror Story is going to get a little freaky with their new season. Showrunner Ryan Murphy announced on his Twitter the fourth season of FX's hit series will be called American Horror Story: Freak Show.

We already know season four will be set in the 1950s and this will be the last season for Jessica Lange, but EW has some new details on American Horror Story: Freak Show. Juniper, Florida will be the location for the new season, and Lange will play a German ex-Pat who is running one of the last freak shows in the United States. Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett and Frances Conroy will all play freaks, and Denis O'Hara and Emma Roberts are also in negotiations to return. The new season will follow Lange and the freaks as they try to keep their business open.

American Horror Story is one seriously f*cked up series, and I can only imagine how crazy the fourth season is going to be with a bunch of freaks running around.

American Horror Story: Freak Show will start airing on FX sometime this year.

First I've heard that Jessica Lange is leaving. Let me guess, in the new one she plays a hardass bitch who we still sympathize with in spite of some shitty behavior.

When she's gone I'd suggest Angela Bassett for recurring lead.

I'm hoping it returns more to the horror element

Season 1 managed to capture the right tone of being both disturbing, terrifying, and heart warming; Season 2 was darker, more melancholy, and more of a mess; Season 3 was too comedic, less consistent, and suffered from bad writing. I'm hoping Freak Show is more of a return of the first season with some darker elements of the second. The concept of a "carnival" is something that screams American Horror Story--especially given the shows diverse cast. My only concern is it'll start out strong like

I heard this was going to be based around a carnival basically, which goes with the Freak Show name. It sounds just, so, excellent. All around. If anyone ever saw the 2 season run of the HBO show Carnivale, you will know how crazy and scary that type of atmosphere can be. AHS is going to have a lot of fun with this one.

I like Taissa Farmiga, and enjoyed her performance in "Murder House", but this season she exhibited zero range in an admittedly terrible part....it's made many, myself included, reluctant to see her return to the "AHS Players" (and I'd been so excited to see her return for "Coven").
Even though Murphy is a d*ck ("I don't know where those Circus rumors came from...") this is very exciting; a Carnival setting is ripe for some real character richness and disturbing set pieces.

I hope the writers learned from "Coven"--map the series and plot points/characters out before shooting begins, not along the way, as this was "Coven"'s biggest misstep. It started so promisingly, but eventually kept fattening itself up with so much excess, it couldn't create any real resolution.
While "Asylum" had its detractors, it was point-blank the best season thus far. From the characters and their incredible arcs, to the setting, the depravity, etc. It was all top-notch. And, like it or not, "Asylum" spent a good 3 episodes wrapping itself up. It has the best finale of all three seasons, hands down.
In regards to "Freak Show"--make it Lange's swan song (if indeed it is her final run), and write her a part on a par with the magnitude of Sister Jude. Give Sarah Paulson some Lana Winters-level material...don't just have her whine and go blind all season. Pen Kathy Bates a really incredible role to compensate for her criminal underutilization in "Coven". Bring back Zachary Quinto. Give Frances Conroy another scene-stealing part.
And Lily Rabe will, heartbreakingly, likely not be available for "Freak Show", and will be missed dearly.
