Amy Adams being sought for English remake of The Orphanage

08.31.2011by:

It literally seems a day can't go by without me reporting on some sort of reboot or remake, but few are as upsetting as this one is to me.

Not only is THE ORPHANAGE one of my favorite horror films of all time, and the original was perfect in Spanish, but it was actually SO good it was released in 700 US theaters back in 2007, and many of us have seen it on DVD since.

But no, we need someone to retell the story to us in ENGLISH to save our poor eyes from reading subtitles and our ears from the horrible language of Spanish. Could we BE any more American?

In any event, this is all leading up to the fact that Amy Adams is being sought for the lead in the film of Laura, whose son goes missing shortly after she moves into an old orphanage she grew up in as a child.

I like the movie, I like Amy Adams, so sure, this is fine if it does come to fruition, but there's nowhere to go but down from the original. Best case scenario it's like LET ME IN which was a fine movie in its own right, but was overshadowed by its foreign language counterpart anyway.

Extra Tidbit: When are we getting an English Language remake of CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON starring Jason Statham and Zoe Saldana?

I love Amy Adams, I love the first film, and I'd...even be willing to check out a remake if it were done by a good director. But Amy Adams NEEDS to pay attention to her Oscar nods - she's way past the seminal "horror movie remake" stage in many a young actress/actor's career.

No, Amy...just say NO.

Usually I'm not a fan of American or English remakes of other films, but this would the the only one that I won't mind. I am not liking that Oldboy is being made.

Best case scenario: it's good and some people who would have never known about the original otherwise will go back and watch it out of curiosity. Worst case: it sucks, it'll bomb, and you all can just ignore the fact the remake exists. Either way, I'm physically incapable of disapproving of any movie Amy Adams is involved in.

Get over it

Movies will be remade as long as there is the potential for profit. I don't know what is more annoying--unnecessary remakes, or pointless crying over remakes.

Oh, and by the way, as good as the original Girl With the Dragon Tatoo is, Fincher's version will be superior. So be sure to bash it as well, while you're at it.

This is a discussion board for speaking one's opinion. If you don't want the opinion of others, especially if they differ with your own. Why do you read them?...and it's also ironic you yourself refer to them as "unnecessary remakes" yet accuse those of saying the same as crying. Interesting.

I actually didn't like the the second Millenium trilogy movie very much, so I'm pretty happy that one will (assumedly) getting remade. The first and third movies were great, but I'm not at all unopposed at Fincher getting a crack at them. Remakes don't really bother me, to be honest. They don't affect the original work, and it's not like there aren't plenty of non-remakes still being made.

So it's ok to complain about people who whine over remakes. Sure got it.

UGGH

I love Amy Adams, but the idea of remaking this is disheartening. Give me a fucking break with the remakes.

They should skip producing this remake, because they'll only want to 'reboot' it all over again in about four or five years' time after they fuck it up first time around.

I agree with Mr. Tassi. This is one of my favorite horrors of recent years and it did get a theatrical release so, I can't see the need to do it again after only 4 years and can't see them improving on it. Whatever. At least Adams is a solid casting choice.

Why the fuck would they remake this already? I was under the impression that a good amount of people in this country knew about The Orphanage anyway, especially because of Del Toro's involvement.
