An awesome Captain America poster you won't see in theaters

Jun. 13, 2011by: Mike Sampson

This retro CAPTAIN AMERICA poster is one of the best pieces of promotional art I've seen this year but sadly it's not something you'll ever see in your local theater promoting the film. It's instead a gift from Marvel to the cast and crew of CAPTAIN AMERICA handed out at the wrap party. Only 100 of the posters were printed so if you have yourself a copy, consider yourself pretty lucky (or consider yourself Tommy Lee Jones).

The art was created by Paolo Rivera, who pitched Marvel on doing the actual art for the one-sheet. Paramount, not surprisingly, had some other ideas, and Marvel instead commissioned Rivera for the limited edition print you see here. And for all those sick of Photoshop in posters, pretty much everything you see here was done with pencil, ink and paint (even the lettering). And that's pretty damn cool.

This is how they should have been marketing the film since its inception. Market it like a WWII bond drive. But knowing studio heads, they probably thought it would drive down the box office if audiences knew ahead of time it was a period piece. SMH.

Love it! Reminds me of the poster for the Errol Flynn movie, 'Desperate Journey': [link]

THIS is what I have been saying since day one!!! It's exactly what the poster(s) for this movie should be. That and war propaganda posters is what we needed!
Can someone please explain WHY do studios NOT understand that this kind of art is a gazillion times better in every way to the photoshop jobs they always go with!! WHY!?

Love the homage to the 1st issue of Captain America comics btw!

its probably because they'd have to pay the artists more money then a photoshop job. painting like that and set up takes time.

"limited edition print" = BS

I need to own one of these and don't want to spend big money to get it. Damn Paramount.

FINALLY

too bad its not an official poster. but this is what marvel should be doing NORMALLY for ALL their comic-baised movies!! - REAL artwork that reminds/ harkens back to the story's orgins : that it was from a comic book. because this is so much more interesting then a photoshop project. everyone can use photoshop. drawing, inking, painting and making it this level of quality, not everyone can do, so the poster becomes something more then just an ad.

Great poster.

Too bad. A poster as good as that actually makes me want to go see the movie. I still don't have any intentions in going, but if they promoted it better I could probably be coaxed.

Tarantino should directed Captain America instead of Inglourious Basterds.
