And the Avengers-related cameo rumor of the day is...

4 years agoby:

...HAWKEYE!

That's right, Marvel's archery master and expert sharpshooter is the latest character who will supposedly assist in pollinating that particular superhero movie universe, by meeting ye Mjolnir-holder. Verily.

According to The Wrap, Jeremy Renner will sling some arrows in next summer's THOR as a precursor to the assemblage of THE AVENGERS. The extent of Hawkeye's interactions with the Thunder God are unknown -- their source "declined to elaborate on the context of the character's appearance or when it will occur." So you may be staying through the credits yet again.

Still, unlike that debunked Demi Levato rumor (c'mon, did anyone really believe that?), this seems more likely to happen. After all, Renner himself said this a year ago (before he was even officially involved): "The only reason it came out this early, because AVENGERS is two years away, is that they’re thinking OK, we may throw him in THOR , we may not, as a cameo. You know what I mean? So there’s truth that we talked about it, but there’s no truth to me doing it." (And then he did.)

Curiously, Sam Jackson's eyepatched espionage honcho Nick Fury isn't expected to show up in Kenneth Branagh's THOR, so perhaps Hawkeye and Agent Coulson will be in charge of collecting the earthbound Asgardian.

Extra Tidbit: Meanwhile, we're still hearing rumblings about another female Marvel character getting squeezed into Joss Whedon's AVENGERS (my own guess is some original variation of Whedon's own S.W.O.R.D. agent Brand from "Astonishing X-Men"). Guesses and thoughts?

I'M HOPING...

We get a proper origin movie for THOR before inserting all The Avengers stuff into it like with Iron Man 2. Iron Man got his origin movie, and Cap and THOR deserve the same. We already know S.H.I.E.L.D plays a major role in it, and thats fine because their role in the MARVEL U is to be a Government Agency that specializes in superhumans. A Hawkeye cameo would be fine, but we don't need Nick Fury and Black Widow shoehorned in there just to set up The Avengers some more.

This could be cool. So long as they remember this is a THOR movie and not an Avengers prequel like Iron Man 2 was, it should rock.

This would be a great way to introduce the character of Hawkeye and a great way to lead into "The Avengers".

For some reason the line, "so perhaps Hawkeye and Agent Coulson will be in charge of collecting the earthbound Asgardian", gives me goosebumps.

Sam Jackson not in Thor? Yeah right.

My ass will be in the seat right through the credits.

Maybe they'll do one of their ten minute origin shorts for Hawkeye that they said they were planning on doing (seeing as how he won't get an actual full origin movie) before the film.

Then, when he comes at the end for a cameo, it'll make more sense and give the movie a bit more of a rounded feel.

Or they could randomly reference a character that very few people (Besides us geeks) really know about without any explanation ala the Mjolnir shot at the end of Iron Man 2. I really wish

I really wish Marvel will tell us what's going on with those shorts though. Avengers is just around the corner and if they want to introduce the smaller characters (hopefully Dr. Strange is included), they only have 2 movies left to do it in.

Dr. Strange isn't particularly well associated with the Avengers. Maybe Marvel is waiting for the rights to the FF to come back to them and then they'll put the Silver Surfer in a Defenders movie. They can do like they did with the Hulk and do a sequel to the Silver Surfer movie that never happened as opposed to the Silver Surfer movie we got.

Brand would make sense, if the Skrull/Kree rumors were true. Sounds like her jurisdiction.

Bigger question about Brand is not if, but rather who from Whedon's Harem of Badass Chicks will he pick to play her?

All in favor of Summer Glau?

Female Marvel Character? It could be The Wasp or Maria Hill. I'd go with Maria Hill.

The big rumor I've read (in UK papers) is that Alan Tudyk has been cast for a cameo as Hank Pym in the Avengers movie. Of course, Edgar Wright (who is supposed to be directing the Ant-Man movie) said that was news to him. So who knows?

good news
but this all thing sound more and more like ULTIMATE Marvel instead of the mainstream Marvel UNIVERSE (616).
The only thing that worries me is that Thor seems to think of himself more as an alien than a God in the trailer...

Didn't we sort of know this ...

Didn't I see Renner on stage at the big Avengers ComicCon thing some months back? I think this is sort of old news. I could be wrong however.

You're right, he was announced at being Hawkeye in Avengers, but this article is about him having a cameo role in Thor, which is new info.
