Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Avi Arad talk The Amazing Spider-Man

3 years agoby:

AndrewGarfieldSpiderManFirst off, because I know it's the news you've all been just dying to hear, something from Emma Stone (she plays Gwen Stacy) on whether or not she and Peter Parker would have a kiss as special as the upside down one from SPIDER-MAN:

“You don’t want to know! You want to watch the movie and find out. Plus, it would be weird if we were like, ‘There’s something iconic coming up!’ You’ve got to decide if it’s iconic or not. But there is a nice first kiss and it’s different than the upside down one. And we liked it.”

This information comes, by the way, from a recent press conference held in Japan to promote THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.  The movie will be releasing a few weeks early there on the 20th of June.  Next up is producer Avi Arad, talking Curt Connors, a.k.a The Lizard (played by awesome Welsh actor Rhys Ifans):

“We introduce our villain, Dr. Connors, and in the great tradition of Marvel, Dr. Connors is going to be connected to Peter Parker and, in our case even more interesting, to Gwen Stacy. Right there, the challenge of having to deal with a villain who is a mentor and the only one who you can look at and say, ‘So what really happened to my dad?’ That’s a very hard person to fight.”

And finally, here's the star of the show Andrew Garfield on the stunts and what they reveal about Spider-Man:

”As you can see, a lot of the stunts are practical and grounded in reality. That was something that Marc, the director, really wanted to make sure happened in this movie to set it apart from previous ones… I would exhaust myself every day and get into near-death experiences every hour on the hour… I collaborated with [the stunt team] not only on the big stunt set-pieces but also on what happens to Peter’s body when he gets bitten. What happens to his DNA and how that effects the way he moves and the way he interacts with objects. The idea that he has spider DNA running in his system. What that will do to his sense of space. What that will do to the sensitivity of his skin.  To have an opportunity to play in that forum with creative and talented people was a real opportunity and gift”

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN shoots its post-converted 3D webs all over your face this coming July 3rd.

Extra Tidbit: Curt Connors was played by Dylan Baker in Raimi's trilogy, and would have become The Lizard if Raimi had done Spider-Man 4. I know that technically this is a reboot, but how do you feel about recasting roles (see The Dark Knight/Iron Man 2 as well)?

I'll wait for a new trailer, but sounds good enough....plus it's not a post convert, it's definitely shot with 3D cameras.

Ah, so this Parker is one of those people wears Ramones t-shirts, while most likely having never bought an album.

Wasn't much of a fan of Raimi's trilogy (I think it mostly came down to the casting of Maguire who just didnt seem right to me) - so I'm looking forward to a new take on this, hope it's good!

In theory I like the idea of practical effects, but until I see footage of spidey in action the jury is still out. I like the cast and crew, but I still can't get excited about another origin story.

I have a feeling this movie will be even more emo than the scenes from part 3, sorry I just don't have any faith in this movie.

hmm.. definitely don't agree with you about Terrence. He's a fine actor and has been in a lot of good films. guess you've never seen the brave one, crash, or hustle and flow, or even mr. hollands opus.

I hope this movie turns out to be great. I am really excited for it.

I love the character too much for me not to be excited about this film.

The practical effects are the reason I want to see this.

Tidbit: we've already done this, mr New Guy....

Fair enough, thanks for letting me know! Here was my alternate tidbit - I'd be interested to hear your thoughts: "A lot of movies, both superhero and not (see Channing Tatum's PAN. described to studios as 'Pan Begins'), seem to be adopting the 'Batman Begins' approach, applying grit and darkness and all that. Not that that's bad per se, but is there a character/franchise you feel could instead do with some lightening up?"
