Angelina Jolie is a horny shepherdess in these Maleficent set pics

On the heels of yesterday's first official image of Angelina Jolie in character as MALEFICENT we now have some set images from the production.

Now, at first glance you are all probably getting ready to sarcastically comment about how amazing these photos are, but they do shed a little more information on the production than you would think.

We know that the movie is aiming to be the backstory of how the evil queen became so full of hatred for Princess Aurora which means this is an origin story. So, seeing Jolie in lowly robes and shepherding cattle likely means these images are from before she becomes royalty. But, then again, she is donning the trademark horns that the character is synonymous with. Could this be her returning to her ancestral home after ascending to the throne?

I know it is all speculation at this early point in production, but I am intrigued by how this movie is going to approach the material. MALEFICENT could be as stylish and dark as SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, or it could be brighter and more, well, Disney like ENCHANTED.

Here it looks like she's a creature with actual horns coming out of her head, which I like even more than the official horned turban picture. Maybe she wraps them up when she becomes powerful. Anyway, looks promising.

Maybe she was mobbed cause of her horns and thus got so spiteful. Maybe they called her an old cow or a stinking goat-chick.

Seriously?

They're actually doing this? I'm skeptical but I'm generally pleased. It makes that they'd get someone like Jolie, whose been known to have goth-esque tendencies. But I'm still sort of puzzled, as if someone's fantasy fan fiction has suddenly become reality. Still, could be worse than Angelina Jolie as an evil sorceress.

This certainly looks promising, though I'm always wary of production designers/visual effects artists becoming directors. I love that costume, though I wonder what context it is that Maleficent is hanging around cattle. Backstory!

I doubt it is more like "Enchanted". A movie based on an evil villain has to be more like the huntsman. By the way, isn't it refreshing to have an origin story/film based on a villain rather than a hero?
