Apparently nobody told Alan Cumming he was in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Mar. 13, 2013by: Alex Maidy

Just yesterday, we had James McAvoy spill the beans regarding Alan Cumming returning to the role of Nightcrawler for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. It made logical sense since everyone else was coming back. But, today Alan Cumming himself has discredited the rumor.

In a recent radio interview, Cumming was asked about McAvoy's revelation about his involvement, to which Cumming had this to say:

No, they havent [asked me to return]. Someone asked me that the other day and I said no. I know the one thats coming up shoots this spring, but I wouldnt be available anyway,"

From the sounds of that, Cumming wouldn't be open to returning even if he was asked. From the scope that director Bryan Singer is going for, the majority of those who were not featured in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS are likely cameos or smaller roles. Cumming could conceivably film a quick few days in the make-up if he wanted to.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding how X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is being developed. Some are concerned that there are too many characters and that the story is not staying faithful to the classic comic story arc, but we do need to all stop and realize that this is a movie and it will take liberties with the stories. We would all prefer a straight adaptation of the comic, but we have to assume Singer and company know what they are doing. This was the guy who brought us the first two X-MEN movies, after all.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Hugh Jackman, opens on July 18, 2014.

That's a shame. It would have been cool see some Nightcrawlin' action.

I'd like a WETA Digital-created Beast voiced by Kelsey Grammer.

McAvoy also said something about a "third film". Maybe he knows more than he is letting on and a third film will be a continuation of Days of Future Past and that's how they will be able to involve everybody and maybe that's when they'll be able to bring back Nightcrawler.

WHO CARES

I love nightcrawler but just cast a new guy, do like doug jones or something... It doesn't matter, alan cumming did a great job, but he could easily be replaced... they did it with shadowcat and nobody cared
Just replace him with someone else and keep nightcrawler in it jeeze

That sucks. He would have been one of the more exciting characters to come back from the original trilogy.

It's official. No matter how awesome Day of Future Past is, it will only be second to X2 because it doesn't have Nightcrawler. It's like making Star Wars VII without Chewie. Sure you could without it affecting the story, but it would be SO much better if he's there.

Please, Alan

Pleasssse, come back as Nightcrawler. You are and have been my favorite X mutant. At least, my favorite one portrayed on screen.

No, we wouldn't all like a straight adaptation of the comic

What I want is a movie that has sound exposition and character development that tells the story in the most exciting way possible while staying faithful to the basic premise of the comic.

It would have been nice to see him doing more bamfing, but I'm not that surprised he isn't returning. Wasn't he supposed to show up in Last Stand, but (understandably) didn't want to go through 8 hours of makeup for what would essentially amount to a cameo? With the size of the cast, it sounds like it would basically be the same deal for this one, so I don't blame Cumming for bowing out.

I wish nothing more than his return, however I sort of love that we live in a world where Alan Cumming isn't available for a shoot that Halle Berry needs more than anything.

I would love to see Alan Cumming back again as Nightcrawler but if he can't, he can't. Also, McAvoy's quote "You got me, [Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender,] Nicholas Hoult will be back, and hes just blossoming massively over [in America]. []bPatrick Stewart, Ian Mckellen, Halle Berry, Alan Cumming, Peter Dinklage I hear mentioned[/b] I dont know if thats happening
I hear mentioned doesn't mean is for sure returning. So he's guessing, maybe even hoping. Hope he doesn't get backlash
