There were rumors for a little bit that PRINCE OF PERSIA would be presented in 3D by Disney. Those rumors were eventually debunked but if you've still got a jones for Arabian battles in 3D, might I interest you in ARABIAN NIGHTS? Chuck Russell (THE SCORPION KING) has signed on to direct a $70 million reworking of the classic tale that will be presented in 3D.

This new version, financed by Inferno Entertainment, "follows a young commander who, after his king is killed in a palace coup, joins forces with Sinbad, Aladdin and his genie to rescue Scheherazade and her kingdom from dark powers." Expect a lot of funky magic carpet rides and I'm not talking about the Steppenwolf laser light show. Russell co-wrote the script with Barry Ambrose and will be shopping the pic at the American Film Market in LA this week. Filming on ARABIAN is expected to begin filming in April.

Extra Tidbit: The song "Arabian Nights" from ALADDIN sparked controversy over the line "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face," and was changed for all future releases.

Russell made SK pretty fun, and this sounds like it could be too.
