Are these the two other contenders for Nightwing in Zack Snyder's Batman vs Superman?

Nov. 11, 2013by:

Friday's report on Adam Driver being a serious contender to play Nightwing in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN mentioned two unnamed actors who are also apparently up for the part, and Superhero Movie News think they know who the actors are. According to a source for the site, Penn Badgley (left) and Ezra Miller (right) are both being considered for the rumored part.

Penn Badgley is probably best known for starring on CW's Gossip Girl, but he has also appeared in several films such as JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE and EASY A. Ezra Miller is a younger actor (21), however he has gained a lot of notice the past two years because of his performances in WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN and THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER.

One thing to remember: Nightwing being in the film is still just a rumor, so these three could be up for a different part in the film. However, there has been no word from Warner Bros. (confirming or denying) on the character appearing in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, and it does sound like there's a chance Batman's former sidekick will be a part of the film. But should he be in it, and should any of these actors play him? I'm fairly certain most of you are not going to be down with Penn Badgley, but are you sold on Adam Driver or Ezra Miller as Nightwing?

BATMAN VS SUPERMAN will be in theaters on July 17th, 2015.

Ezra sounds like he's a gifted actor with some character, he's got an interesting face.

No Night Wing!

I don't think that the man of steel sequel should have any form of robin in it at all! Keep the focus on batman and superman.... And maybe a cameo from Wonder women ( not suited up yet)

If they're going for that, "doesn't look like they could ever hold up in a fight" look, then they're on the right path.

I really like Ezra Miler (chilling in We Need To Talk About Kevin and extremely entertaining in Perks of Being a Wallflower) and suggested him for Nightwing, but I've always figured him more as Jason Todd than as Dick Grayson. Still, seems like a better choice than Adam Driver at the moment.

I like Ezra Miller. He stood out in The Perks of Being A Wallflower. But as Nightwing? No, I don't think so.

Penn Badgley is fine, Ezra Miller....no.

Personally I don't believe in any of the casting rumors. Look at all the names that were thrown around as testing and being considered for Batman and then they announced Affleck...which no one saw coming. Or how about when everyone was going with the story that Joe Manganiello was the front runner for Superman and it went to Henry Cavill....no one saw Amy Adams casting coming either. I have a feeling DC/WB throws out a lot of disinformation just so

Apparently Kevin Smith has seen Ben Affleck in the new Bat suit:
"I saw the costume, more than that, I saw him [Ben Affleck] in the costume. I don't want to give anything away, but I am going to say this... I instantly bear hugged [Snyder].
You have not seen this costume in film before. Because every other movie has done this Matrixy black armor thing. There wasn't a single nipple on this suit.
I think everyone is gonna be like 'Holy Sh*t!' We haven't been down this path before. Even the

I don't know what the hell Gossip Girl is, but I thought Penn was pretty good in Easy A. But would still like to see someone better as Nightwing. By the way, why the hell do they want a John Hawkes type for the role?

Honestly, I'm all for Miller. He seems like the type of actor that would take this role seriously, train vigorously, maybe bulk up a bit, do some martial arts maybe parkor (in todays modern world I can definitely see Nightwing being Bludhaven's own parkour-esque acrobat). He's one to look out for.

I don't know any of these actors so it would be unfair to comment.

I would like to say though... I've longed to see Nightwing in a movie... But not like this. After Nolan's anti-Robin trilogy I was really hoping that they'd bring in Dick Grayson and we could watch him grow over a few films so that he 'becomes' Nightwing organically.... In the same way if like to see Barbara Gordon go from Batgirl to The Oracle.

I think, if this film is going to be equal parts Batman and Superman then of course Batman needs some guys in his corner. Supes already has Lous, Perry and Martha. I thought we'd be hearing about the new Alfred and Jim Gordon for this film...

.... But all that said... If Nightwing IS in this film (and they've passed over his Robin years)... Just make him kickass. I'm sort of already excited for the next solo Batflick (whenever that may be)

Ezra Miller I can't see pulling off this character. He's a fantastic actor, but I don't think he could bring the type of angst/toughness to the character that would be needed.

However, I do think Penn Badgley could be good in this role. Never watched Gossip Girl. But I do remember him from Easy A and from Stepfather. Personality wise, I think he could bring it. Nightwing has a very mature attitude and thoughtful person, while at the same time is more light-hearted than Batman. I think

I will go as far as to say I prefer him out of all three names mentioned for th role so far.

Well...

I personally feel that Nightwing is a bit out of place for this series. If there was an establishment in earlier films that leads to his introduction later that's fine by me but bringing him in for the second part of one series and the beginning of another is a bit iffy. Honestly I would prefer a Nightwing TV show on the CW as a sort of counterpart to Arrow which is really excellent.

I crack up whenever I heard someone talk about these movies as "overcrowded" as if the ALL other movies only have 2 or 3 members of the cast.

I know its going to be a whole other universe, but I still think Joseph Gordon-Levitt should be considered for Nightwing. At the same time though, why do they feel the need to cram all these characters into a movie titled Batman Vs. Superman? This is supposed to be a build up to Justice League is it not? It just seems to me that putting all of these other characters into this film that's about Batman first encountering Superman doesn't seem right. And why is every rumor about a "Batman" related

And why is every rumor about a "Batman" related character? What about characters from the Superman side? In my opinion, if DC wants to equal or better the success of Marvel, they need more stand alone movies. I have no problem with Affleck being Batman, but I think it would more widely accepted if he did his own Batman movie before BvsS. I say that because I'm sure most fans still have Christian Bale in their heads.

Funny how nearly all Marvel casting rumours result in the type of kick one would get out of playing rock paper scissors when they're totally bored...but every WB's one feels like a test of strength challenge where you feel like you're always losing. It certainly feels like the euphoria that came out of Batman Superman movie being announced is being seriously diluted. Long Live Marvel Studios.

I would want to see Penn Badgley the most out of the three, even though Adam Driver I think is the strongest actor out of the three.

I doubt any of these three get the role. It almost seems like whoever is mentioned as a rumored casting at this point never get the role anyway. For instance DC said Cranston was a sure thing for Luthor, even though we haven't heard anything yet about that. And the whole Affleck casting was a total bombshell.

I don't know either of these actors, but I would certainly wouldn't mind seeing that Penn Badgley kid in a skin tight Nightwing costume.
