Oliver Stone's SAVAGES starts dealing its wares next week and today we have a promo/featurette for the film, which stars Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, John Travolta, and Benicio Del Toro.  Based on the book by Don Winslow, the film follows two pot growers

Are you a Savage?

As has been the case since I first heard of this project, I am really hoping for a hardcore action flick with SAVAGES.  Stone has absolutely got the ability and the balls to put the pedal to the metal with this film.  He's not known for playing it safe or being afraid to piss people off with his work, so there's no reason he can't bring that same intensity to an action/crime flick.

Here's a synopsis:

Three-time Oscar®-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone returns to the screen with the ferocious thriller Savages, featuring the all-star ensemble cast of Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch and Demian Bichir. The film is based on Don Winslow’s best-selling crime novel that was named one of The New York Times' Top 10 Books of 2010.

Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry—raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them.

When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon—with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta)—wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and maneuvers in a high stakes, savage battle of wills.

SAVAGES opens on July 6, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: Jennifer Lawrence was originally cast as O, but dropped out to do The Hunger Games instead. I'm thinking that probably worked out for the best...

"He's not know for playing it safe or even pissing people off with his work, so there's no reason he can't bring that same intensity to an action/crime flick."

This sentence is really confusing. First, it should be known, not know. Second, "he's not known . . .for even pissing people off with his work"? I think I understand the intent of the sentence, but the execution is poor. It seems to me that Oliver Stone is known for pissing people off with his work, but that is not how it

Grammar diversion aside, this movie does look intriguing.

Man, you must have caught that within the 60 seconds it took me to correct it when it went live. Talk about bad timing. Yes, the original sentence made no sense. It happens sometimes.

Savages does look like good time though with Stone directing like the Natural Borns Killers with John Carter and OC girl with Saterdays Night Fever guy and hot Spanish chick. Also, lots of guns and exsposhuns. ;)

I guess I'm really quick at annoyingly correcting people's grammar. I usually try not to, but the sentence stood out to me and for some reason I felt like mentioning it, which I usually try to avoid. Unfortunately, I am one of those worthless people with an English degree and no purpose for it but to correct other people's errors and act superior. It's really a sad life, but it's not like I can actually get a career in writing (especially in Green Bay, WI).

Anyways, sorry for being "that

Anyways, sorry for being "that guy." I know you are a capable writer and mistakes happen. That's just what this poor, pathetic English major does with my degrees.

Well, that was depressing. Don't beat yourself up too much man, not healthy.

No worries, man. Sometimes you miss stuff when putting these stories together. I am a grammar Nazi as well, as any writer should be, but certainly fall prey to butchering the shit out of the English language from time to time.

Now, go write something and put that degree to work! ;)

I also have kind of a dark sense of humor, so I sometimes make jokes at the expense of myself. You know, the "self-deprecating" kind. So, as depressing as my last reply sounded, it was still very tongue-in-cheek. With so many "grammar-nazis" on the Internet, it's fun to make light of the "disease" that us poor writer's all share: the inclination to correct bad writing. Writer's are cursed with the sensitivity to spelling mistakes and other grammatical errors, and I think that is especially

It's kind of a running joke, and yes, a little depressing.
