Are you afraid of the dark? Check out the new restricted trailer for Riddick

Jul. 19, 2013by: Niki Stephens

During the RIDDICK panel at Comic Con a new trailer debuted. Luckily we've got it here for you to watch, or watch again if you attended the panel.

Instead of following the rules of a traditional trailer this one actually has a scene break in the middle. I was wondering if they would give away the entire movie when I saw that the time on the trailer was 3:00 minutes but this doesn't do that at all. This method works perfectly for a film like this because it gets the suspense and anticipation up for it.

Before we saw that Riddick (Vin Diesel) was being chained up despite his warnings. Then suddenly shit hits the fan and that's that. Check out the NFSW trailer below.

Riddick, the latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000's hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy. The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

RIDDICK, starring Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Katie Sackhoff, Dave Bautista, Jordi Molla, and Bokeem Woodbine, gets dark on September 6, 2013.

Gotta hand it to Vin Diesel for getting this done. Film looks great and will be a nice return to form for the franchise.

pitch black

This looks just like pitch black. Why can't they get it?!? Creatures didn't make riddick popular. *beep* the games were amazing and not one single creature. Too bad we will never get that quality in a movie. His portrayel in the games was the best to date.

It's been a while since I've played Escape From Butcher Bay, but there were definitely creatures in the game. Or don't you remember the Pit, or those fugly monsters under the Mines? That's the whole appeal of Riddick. Only the monsters are a real threat to him.

I loved Pitch Black. When I first saw it I thought man, that David Twohy could be the next James Cameron. Then I first saw Chronicles of Riddick and thought "eh, what is this shit?!" - sorry I can't think of the best way to describe how I felt about that film. It just seemed a bit pretentious.

This trailer on the other hand looks quite original and promising. I know it's the same old being hunted by monsters storyline but it looked quite fun.

Yikes....

While I enjoyed the first movie, the sequel....not so much. Can't get hyped for this. The effects look dodgy at best. The upside of the trailer is that it really shows off Diesel's range.

Wait, Karl Urban is in this one? Will the movie have some ties to Chronicles of Riddick?

Yes, there will be ties to Chronicles of Riddick. If you look closely at 0:34, you can see a Necromonger ship in the background.

basically........

This 3rd in the series is a remake of the first which was a fun movie. I am still in, as long as it is better than the 2nd - that was awful.

That was pretty awesome, however I'm kinda surprised they readily showed the deaths of so many characters in a trailer.

Hell yeah!

Now that's a trailer! I had more fun with that than I have with some movies. Nice to see the Pitch Black vibe is present; I had fun with "Chronicles" but thought it was messy in some parts but I absolutely loved Pitch Black.
