Arnold Schwarzenegger is officially set to star in The Legend of Conan for Universal!

10.25.2012

The question was posed just two weeks ago: will Arnold Schwarzenegger be making TERMINATOR 5 or another CONAN movie next?. We now know the answer.

Schwarzenegger is officially on board THE LEGEND OF CONAN which will be produced by Universal Pictures. The film will be a direct sequel to CONAN THE BARBARIAN and skip the events of CONAN THE DESTROYER as well as the Jason Momoa reboot. Universal is aiming for a summer 2014 release.

THE LEGEND OF CONAN will be produced by Paradox Entertainment, which owns the rights to the character. Chris Morgan will produce for Universal. Morgan, who has worked on 47 RONIN, WANTED, and the FAST AND THE FURIOUS series developed the story and may write the screenplay.

Morgan is a huge fan of the CONAN series and had this to say about the new film: “After the original seminal movie, all that came after looked silly to me. Robert E. Howard’s mythology and some great philosophy from Nietzsche to Atilla the Hun was layered in the original film. People say, he didn’t speak for the first 20 minutes of the film, but that was calculated in depicting this man who takes control of life with his own hand. This movie picks up Conan where Arnold is now in his life, and we will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story. I love the property of Conan so much that I wouldn’t touch it unless we came up with something worthy. We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan’s Unforgiven.”

THE LEGEND OF CONAN = UNFORGIVEN? Hell-f*cking-yeah!

Morgan will not shy away from the violence which tells me we can definitely look forward to a respectable follow up to the classic film. Schwarzenegger has been making some wise choices in recent years (well, not in his personal life) and this looks like the best project yet! How excited are you guys for THE LEGEND OF CONAN?
