Arnold Schwarzenegger is on board for Terminator 5 and possibly 6

12.04.2012by:

Megan Ellison, the super-producer behind Annapurna Pictures, has finally closed the deal with PacificCorp to gain the rights to THE TERMINATOR franchise. While director Justin Lin is no longer on board as director, Ellison does have Arnold Schwarzenegger committed to appear in the film.

Ellison and her brother David will partner for the film. David Ellison is the head of Skydance Productions which has produced MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL, JACK REACHER, and STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. Megan Ellison's Annapurna has produced ZERO DARK THIRTY, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, and THE MASTER.

The Ellisons own the rights to THE TERMINATOR until 2019 when they revert to James Cameron. The pair are hoping to squeeze out both TERMINATOR 5 and 6 before that time. Seeing as the Ellisons are being viewed as saviors by many Hollywood directors for their willingness to put their money out for projects that would otherwise be passed over by the studios, this news is pretty positive. Their first correct step was getting Arnold on board. If they can get him to be in the movie, I am sure he found their pitch to be worthwhile.

What do you think of two more potential TERMINATOR movies?

Extra Tidbit: As long as McG is nowhere near them, I am good with this.

Non cyborg Arnie

I agree with Texican74, the only logical way for Arnie to come back to the franchise at his age now is have him as the human on which the terminators are modeled. It could be a great new story arc done correctly.

Yeah, like you posted darthmo if done right this could be a great new story arc. I am sure a good writer could come up with a great story. This character could be a lot more serious than in that deleted scene. He could help the resistance combat the terminators, etc. Although it was done already in Salvation they could also include a T-800 Arnie and have him come face to face with the Chief Master Sergeant. Anyway, I am no writer or story teller but something cool could be done with this

Another Terminator Movie

In T3's extras or deleted scenes they show Arnold as Chief Master Sergeant William Candy. Chief Master Sergeant William Candy is a member of the United States Air Force's Combat Control career field (A special operations career tasked with Air Traffic Control duties in austere and non permissive environments as well as Close Air Support for other SOF teams).

In the deleted scenes they make him sound and look funny but what if Master Sergeant William Candy was one of the main characters in the next movies. On paper Master Sergeant William Candy, a United States Air Force Combat Control operator is one tough guy. This could be one road to take in the next movie.

That's a brilliant idea - grab some of now-grown up child actors and have Arnold meet them again. I was pretty surprised to find out that Odette Anabel (formerly Yustman) was one of the kids in Kindergarten Cop!

Well they definitely have some big films under their belt, so that is a relief. I'm glad Arnold is back on board. How awesome would it be to get Linda Hamilton, Michael Bien, and Edward Furlong back as well! I know that's just wishful thinking, but It is Christmas time.

I have no idea where they'll take the story, or if there really is a natural place to go with the inclusion of Arnold himself, and of course how they'll explain robots aging or if they'll digitally augment him to appear like his former self...need to know more before I can form an opinion. But I still feel a little sorry for Justin Lin for getting booted off the project due to Arnold's personal troubles putting the film on hold then.

Well I will be looking forward to T5 and T6 over Avatar 2 and 3. Lets face it Avatar wasnt really a great movie its just Star Trek: The Motion Picture in this era. With a good producer and great company that made good movies for francises (Star Trek, Ghost Protocal) and with Arnold Im excited it cant be bad as T4 and obviously Terminator wont stop being made so atleast its being backed by people that can actually pull it off.

A 70 year old Terminator... riiight. No seriously, terrible idea. Arnold can revisit any role but this one. He is too old. He looks too old. This is just ridiculous. The Terminator does not age. Conan does. Harry Tasker does. Doug Quaid does. John Matrix does. Not the Terminator.

Don't care what anyone else says. A Terminator film without Arnold is NOT a Terminator film! That was the biggest problem with Salvation!

No, Salvations problems were a lot bigger than Ahnold. Wandering script, uninspired performances, mediocre action and not enough Bale did that movie in.

Arnold should come back as a human character. Something like a veteran Resistance General or Commander so powerful physically and mentally even Skynet tries to model the T-800 after him. That would explains why we see the Terminator Arnold at the end of Salvation. That would also give us an opportunity to see Human Arnold VS. Terminator Arnold.

Arnold for motion/performance capture and voice acting. Then body double and CGI (expanding on what they did for that one scene in T4). that'd be interesting if they can pull it off.

Megan Ellison

I have faith mucho faith in Megan Ellison; in the 3ish years she has been producing, she has helped bring into being True Grit, Lawless, the Master, Zero Dark Thirty, and Killing Them Softly. Thats a pretty great batch of films right there. As for the age of Schwarzenneger, it'd be pretty easy to explain the age issue: an older external skin was put on to make him less conspicuous (or something like that- a Terminator can look like anything).

I'm just not sure how they'll pull it off. Kind of scares me that they will just further destroy what used to be a simple cat and mouse between man and machine. I'd almost prefer a reboot at this point.

Who cares?

This franchise is dead. I actually liked Salvation more than most, but getting a 70 year old Arnold to reappear in these films will look like exactly what it is: a cheap stunt shoehorned into an overly convoluted plot. There is zero reason the T-800 would need to look like he is 65. I'm sure Arnold is willing to do it for enough money, and these producers assume they can squeeze a few more bucks out of the name before it reverts back to Cameron, but I can't see any reason to get excited about

The last Terminator film he actually showed up in, T3, was bad enough to end the franchise forever.

So will these tie into the Bale/Worthington terminator movie or follow a different storyline now? I'm just glad they got Arnold back to the franchise

I'm still not sure how they intend to work an obviously much older Arnold back into the franchise, but I'm still pretty damn ecstatic about this news. I hope they come up with a good story that does this great franchise justice.
