Aronofsky to Wrestle

I reported recently that Darren Aronofsky's production company, Protoza Pictures had picked up the film THE WRESTLER, one of the many lead roles that Nicolas Cage has been collecting like they were Pokemon. News today tells us that Aronofsky will in fact direct the thing, which comes as a real shock to me. The good kind of shock though, since I feel like I've waited way too long to see Nic Cage in a good movie. And in my opinion, Aronofsky just doesn't have a bad film in him (or maybe even a mediocre one, either). If he really is to direct the film, it will be after he finishes up on THE FIGHTER, something I'm really excited about; a movie about real life boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward, starring Mark Wahlberg and Brad Pitt. THE WRESTLER is to center on Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a 1980s-era star pro wrestler who has become a burnt-out shell of his former self. After he has a heart attack during a small-time match, a doctor tells him he could die if he fights again. In an effort to build a new life, Robinson takes a job at a deli, moves in with an aging stripper and tries to build a relationship with her son. But the prospect of a rematch with his old nemesis the Ayatollah proves too tempting to resist, even if it means risking his life.
Extra Tidbit: Aronofsky went to Harvard University.
