Aronofsky's Ark, etc.

09.13.2008

Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky is in Toronto enjoying the accolades from his latest work THE WRESTLER, and got to chatting about the numerous other projects on his plate.

As you probably know, Aronofsky has the boxing biopic THE FIGHTER and, on the opposite end of the human spectrum, a remake of ROBOCOP. And somewhere in there is a planned epic about NOAH'S ARK.

As Aronofsky tells Slashfilm, "It’s a great script and it’s HUGE." "It’s the end of the world and it’s the second most famous ship after the Titanic. So I’m not sure why any studio won’t want to make it."

So it currently doesn't have a home, but let's hope he has less difficulty getting it to screens than his dizzying, dazzling sci-fi life-death opus THE FOUNTAIN. "It’s a really cool project and I think it’s really timely because it’s about environmental apocalypse which is the biggest theme, for me, right now for what’s going on on this planet," he says. "So I think it’s got these big, big themes that connect with us. Noah was the first environmentalist. He’s a really interesting character. Hopefully they’ll let me make it."

Aronofsky talks about all his past and future plans RIGHT HERE!

Extra Tidbit: Aronofsky is extraordinarily talented AND hooked up with Rachel Weisz. And yet it's impossible to hate him.

Evan Almighty...

... reimagined.

The return to making Biblical Epics. *sigh* A sign of the times I guess.

rofl

this is only a bad idea cause he's claiming noah to be the "first environmentalist"

WOW...perhaps he needs to rethink the angle of this story... you're going to take a fairly well-known Bible story and warp it into some environmental activist tree-hugging plot most liekly with political undertones about how we should be more environmentally friendly?
save the animals!

rofl
what a joke!

let mel gibson direct this and stay true to the actual story...which could be pretty dam epic

BrokenDreamer

I agree, the story would be great to see on the big screen but I don't get how its an environmentalist story without significantaly alterting the content (or at least the focus) of the story.

Noah the Environmentalist?

What does he mean "the first environmentalist"? Wasn't the story of Noah's Ark about a man who was chosen by God to be saved from a disaster that would destroy the human race? How does building an ark to survive a deadly flood make him an environmentalist? Or maybe he is referring to the fact that he saved all of the animals from disaster. Still, it seems like quite a stretch and, to me, completely misses the point of the story. And I guess it may be second to Titanic, but I find it more

Still, it seems like quite a stretch and, to me, completely misses the point of the story. And I guess it may be second to Titanic, but I find it more interesting (and the stories are actually the opposite: what killed everyone essentially was this pride that they had built the unsinkable ship; in Noah's Ark, what killed humanity was the pride that made everyone think that they didn't need a huge ark to save them). Therefore, I don't know what to think of it right now; making it a message film about the environment doesn't seem to work for me.

So cool!

This man could direct Traffic and I'd watch it (as in cars on a street not the flick). I loved the Fountain and cant wait to see what he does with Robocop, which to me, is an untouchable sci fi action classic.
I met him at Comic Con a few years back. I have a friend who is his biggest fan, and couldnt make it there, so I gave my cell phone to Aranofsky and he left him a voice message. He was super cool about it and very genuine...and yeah, my friend just about fell over when he checked his
