Arrow showrunner does not rule out Batman appearing on the CW series

01.06.2015

Fans of DC Comics have reason to be excited. With the big screen slate set to begin unfolding next year with BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, the small screen exploits of THE FLASH and ARROW have shown that Marvel is not the only comic book brand worth a damn on screen. With the two CW series enjoying the crossover abilities put to use earlier this season, the question remains if we will see any big DC names appearing on the small screen any time soon.

While it seemed evident that DC was not allowing Batman or Superman to appear on the small screen DC series, ARROW showrunner Greg Guggenheim seems to still have some faith it could happen. In an article for The Hollywood Reporter, Guggenheim shared this about ARROW.

At the end of the day it'd be so awesome to have Batman on the show. That'd be really cool. I don't think that will be happening anytime soon, but you never know…one day. One thing we're always saying…we never expected to have had the Huntress [Jessica De Gouw], Deathstroke [Manu Bennett] or Deadshot [Michael Rowe]; we ended up with a lot more DC Comics characters becoming part of the show than we had ever planned. It wasn't initially part of the pitch or the conception of the show. Now here we are in our third season and we've Flash [Grant Gustin] and the Suicide Squad and we're going to have Katana and we have Ray Palmer [Brandon Routh], and it seems like you could field an entire show off the characters that we have introduced on Arrow. That's so beyond anything we expected. That's a long-winded way of saying I've learned not to expect anything or make any predictions because the reality has far exceeded any of our initial predictions or initial conceptions.

While this is far from a confirmation that we will see The Dark Knight on ARROW, it does open the door for it to happen sometime in the future. Granted, with GOTHAM airing on FOX it would make more sense to see Batman appear in his own origin story before the story of a different hero, stranger things have happened. Personally, I like that ARROW and THE FLASH are not being overshadowed by the top tier DC heroes but I would love to see them all on the screen at the same time. I guess I have to wait for JUSTICE LEAGUE.

ARROW returns with new episodes on The CW beginning January 21st.

Glad to see that they are grateful for the characters they can use and not bitching about who they can't use *Cough* unlike *Cough* Millar *Cough* and *Cough* Gough *Cough*.

It's also good that we get a weekly Justice League TV show plus movies. The fact that they don't interact gives people more creative freedom. Also they can get cheaper actors for TV so as to not stretch budgets.

When he says they "never expected to have Deathstroke" - at what point in the process was that?
Deathstroke was teased from pretty much the first episode as I recall.
I'm sure he'd love to include Batman, but I wouldn't say Arrow as a show really needs Batman. He'd almost be a little redundant to the line-up, unless you were turning it into some sort of wider DC Universe show.

DC/WB's missed a trick not throwing insane amounts of money at Nolan and Bale and having the last Dark Knight movie set up the DC cinematic universe - they further missed a trick by not incorporating the excellent Arrow in to said universe - everyone behind that show has done everything possible to make that product worthy of being part of something much bigger. They've continued this form with Flash - also worthy of being part of the cinematic universe. Tiny changes to the Dark Knight Rises

They've continued this form with Flash - also worthy of being part of the cinematic universe. Tiny changes to the Dark Knight Rises could have facilitated all of this. Clearly the time for that has now passed and I would now prefer Arrow and Flash to remain in a universe where there is no Batman and Superman as I think Arrow has been set up to be everything Batman is - and Flash appears to be playing the boy scout role perfectly. If the reports that the planned Super Girl series will be incorporated into this universe that makes me believe even more Superman and Batman need to stay out of this universe - allowing this world to have an alien female baby arrive instead of a male.

I'm all for it. Arrow & Flash is the only thing DC related that I even care about anymore. This is coming from a life long DC fanboy.

I just really wish that DC would have just connected the Arrow and Flash universe into the big DC Man of Steel universe. If both shows are successful then why not make them apart of the big scene universe. If they were to, then they wouldn't have to spend time on their background or anything.

Makes no sense why they didn't. They would get every Arrow fan in the theatre (Which includes a ton of females), and he wouldn't even be the main character. Having a secondary hero with a huge fan base in a movie with the rest of Justice League just seems like a waste of a gold mine...

I think they would eventually but they might want to wait and see how Batman/Superman movie turns out first. It's quite a big gamble for them.

I'm guessing it has more to do with shooting schedules and the availability of actors that would be shared between the film and TV sets.

Maybe not Batman yet but as Bruce Wayne in some kind of business battle with Palmer Technologies.

This would be awesome. I don't expect fox's gotham to last longer than another season. Neither the fans nor the critics seem to share love for that show.

While it wouldn't totally suck to have Batman appear on ARROW, I just don't think it would ever be practical. Presumably he would only appear on the show as a guest star and since it's BATMAN you need someone worthwhile to play the character. Who do you get that can pull off a good Batman/Bruce Wayne - anyone worthwhile is starring in movies or A-list TV shows. Realistically, are they going to go to CW for a guest spot on ARROW? Not likely.

This can't work because the movie DCU has it's own flash movie coming out. By doing that they've established two different timelines. Also because they also now have their own Captain boomerang and Deadshot...etc

That would only be relevant if they were talking about Ben Afleck appearing. They are not.
