Nearly all the traces of Halloween are gone and now it's on to Christmas.

I'm always on the lookout for a good Christmas film whether it be animated or not. So that said, ARTHUR CHRISTMAS is definitely now on my radar.

Today a press release came from Sony Pictures stating that they have hired James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, and Ashley Jensen for their lovely voices. The world always need more Laurie. The film is being helmed by Barry Cook (MULAN) and Sarah Smith. Smith has penned the screenplay with Peter Baynham (BORAT, BRUNO).

Another cool thing is that this comes from Aardman Animation. They did work for the awesome WALLACE & GROMIT.

Check out the synopsis and character details below:

"Set on Christmas night, the story of Arthur Christmas at last reveals the incredible, never-before seen answer to every child’s question: ‘So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?’ The answer: Santa's exhilarating, ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole. But at the heart of the film is a story with the ingredients of a Christmas classic – a family in a state of comic dysfunction and an unlikely hero, Arthur, with an urgent mission that must be completed before Christmas morning dawns."

"McAvoy leads the cast as Arthur, the good-natured but clumsy younger son of Santa. Arthur LOVES everything to do with Christmas; indeed, he is the only one in his family still captivated by the magic of the holiday. Laurie will play Arthur’s older brother Steve, heir to the reins, a cool, incredibly capable guy who has given the North Pole high-tech efficiency, military-style precision. Broadbent plays Santa, who pictures himself as the guy in charge at the North Pole, but is now more of a figurehead as the operation has outgrown him. Nighy plays Santa’s 136-year-old father, Grandsanta, a cranky old codger who hates the modern world, is always grumbling that Christmas ‘was better when I was Santa’ and has a tense relationship with Steve, who he calls ‘A postman with a spaceship.’ Jensen will play Bryony, a lowly elf from the Giftwrap Battalion, with an eager-to-please attitude and an obsession with wrapping and bows. Imelda Staunton rounds out the cast as Mrs. Santa, dedicated wife and mother to her husband and sons."

This sounds good. Favorite X-Mas film of all time is easily Die Hard.

Miracle on 34th Street (the Edmund Gwynn version, of course)

This sounds awesome! Just imagining Jim Broadbent as the voice of Santa would be enough.

Well, I'll give this movie a shot. Sounds decent enough, and a respectable voice cast. Extra Tidbit, as a child of the early 90's, Home Alone 1 and 2 are my favorite christmas movies. "Somewhere in my Memory" is just a classic Christmas song like no other.

Sounds great. The story sounds like a classic Christmas movie and I very interested to see this cast together in an animated movie, especially Hugh Laurie since he did great voice work in Monsters vs. Aliens. As for favorite christmas movie, Gremlins is my all time Christmas flick.

Tis The Season!

Christmas time again! That means more classic Christmas films! I have no doubt in my mind that with these fantastic actors lending their voices to this interesting sounding cast of characters, it'll end up among the ranks of other must-watch Christmas classics! As for my favorite Christmas flick, I have to say "A Christmas Carol" starring George C. Scott as the infamous Ebenezer Scrooge! It is simply the best version of the classic tale ever made! (the version with Patrick Stewart comes in at a
